Reviews for "Monster Fruit"

A venture of mystery and myth, through strange forests, over spiky mountains, into valleys inhabited by the creatures of endless laughter, harmoniously co-existing with the Earth. I like the sketchy style of animation, it almost seems to lend a tone of ambience to the journey, along with the atmospheric soundtrack. Voicing's great, story's creative; strange. Overall, was a fun animation; adventure!

nicely done

The story was interesting, if a little unoriginal, the voice acting was good, and the art style didn't make my eyes bleed. Unfortunately, there are quite a few problems.

The first problem I noticed was the frame rate. You can get away with a low frame rate if the motion is subtle, but if there is a lot of movement happening on screen, it needs to be either consistent or smooth.

The other problem is the audio. It feels like there should be more sound effects than there are. If you need a sound for something but can't find it for free, record it yourself. The sound of a boiling cauldron could be made with a straw and a glass of water.

I give this a golden "you tried" sticker out of 10.
While it isn't horrible, it isn't good either. The point is that you learned something from creating it.

At least you put effort into it. It could've been much, much worse.

The frame rate can be a bit jarring, I agree. The reason some of it is so choppy is because I was rushing, which is totally my fault. I'll try to improve on my audio work too. Thanks for the critique.

The story was cute, and some of the animations were interesting... but this entire thing felt... incomplete...

Impatience can ruin a good story, so maybe next time complete each scene, paying attention to every detail.

I think this would also have been better WITHOUT voice. Either by manipulating your characters with emotion to tell the story, or with written word like the main characters final 'Goodbye'.

Congrats on the daily feature, this is a good start :)

SwedishPlumTrees responds:

Hi.Thanks for the review. I can see why the voices kind of ruined it. I was giving my best attempt at voice acting, but I can't, for the life of me, act in any way. I'll try to find a work around in the future like you suggested. Anyways, thanks for the critique.
