Reviews for "Naut Land"

After being a Sonic fan for a while, I have been disillusioned about nostalgia. This game is not really creative, and the gravity is tedious. I know that you may have been trying to make a "Nintendo hard" (just try playing Scrap Brain) game, but the gravity screws up the gameplay quite a bit.

I didn't try the music because I just don't feel the need to listen to it, but anyways, if you take away the veil of nostalgia you get a poor game. I am sorry, but that is how I feel this game should be rated.

JackAstral responds:

Ouch :b Fair enough, thanks for giving it a go anyway!

neat concept, poor execution.
The gravity transistions are WAY to slow, the graphics are uninspired(I'm not hating on 8 bit graphics. I like 8 bit graphics...when used correctly.this wasn't) the controls were floaty and slow and it got boring after 3 levels. everythinh felt exactly the same.

JackAstral responds:

Yeah my pixel art is pretty crappy, ahaha. The game introduceds new enemies every 5 levels, which hopefully keep things a little interesting :b Thanks for trying it out anyway, I hope it didn't annoy you to much :b

The music was amazing. I absolutely loved the 8 bit graphics too. This is a semi-decent platformer, and I feel like a lot of people are underrating it.

That said, there are issues with the game, and they all seem to stem from the design choices. Why bother putting a square planet on every level if I have to fall to the edge and wait for a cut scene every time? Why can't I jump around the planet freely? If you are going to steal enemies from other games, don't steal Goomba's when the mario universe has Spiny's. Having to click continue and again on the next level #, when it could have automatically progressed me from the door of the last one was annoying. For that matter, why did I have to press x at doors? That's what bothered me, but read the other comments because they will cover more opportunities.

Despite all that, I actually really enjoyed the game, so what ended up bothering me most was that it never really got HARD (A medal after each level was overkill!). Overall, the game felt like a really solid platformer buried under a few poor design choices.

JackAstral responds:

Thanks! I'll be patching the game up soon to add keyboard based menu controls- a few people seem a little annoyed by it :b Thanks so much for the detailed review- it's really helpful!

Cute graphics, cool music, I like the gravity shift mechanic, and with some more effort this could be a really cool game. As it stands, moving around is cumbersome since the character is so slow, the transition between the planet sides is annoying, the large goomba you can't jump over is often used just to pad out a level, and overall just annoying and not very fun to play.

JackAstral responds:

Okay, thanks for giving it a go anyway!

I can't take the coins? XC

JackAstral responds:

Strange! Maybe try refreshing the page?
