while i see your point i still enjoy the show but it also goes into the hystory that there world parallels a another and magic allows them to intertwine when a man broken by lost love seeks the power to bring back his dead wife after he discovers it in egipt the "card game " is connected to there past and future and i couldnt watch the abridged version the voices make me cringe

This review is spot on, especially the part about liking it at first because that's how I was, too. Of all things I was embarrassed about when it comes to watching or doing things as a kid, this is one of the top things I was hesitant to admit I ever watched. I didn't feel that way for the other cartoons, especially Loony Toons, Batman, Spiderman, Animaniacs, Freakazoid, or even Muppet Babies because they were classics that deserved that name. Yugioh didn't go that far and instead focused entirely on advertising the card game it was based off of, the story was just something on the side. Having realized it wasn't such a good show, I felt embarrassed I ever watched it. So yeah, that's one of my kid experiences I never too part of.
Eeeeeeegh. As much as I agree that the pretense of "Everything is solved with a card game." doesn't sound too exciting, that isn't really where everything about the show ends. I guess if you aren't the kind of person who enjoys card games to begin with, you wouldn't really like the show since it is mostly card games. But completely bashing the show just because "Everything is solved with a card game." is pretty petty. It is meant for younger audiences which is pretty limiting for a show with an anime formula, like pokemon, but it is still cool in its own right. If you don't like card games, don't let that be the entire basis for your review.
Watch the abridged series? Sure. Already did, and it seems like this episode was just an excuse to use the same jokes they used in there and bash a show you don't like after completely basing your merit for other shows off of nothing but how funny/unfunny the jokes are sometimes.
I like the yugioh series cause it crosses the border of video game and boring card game, I do admit that there would be better ways to solve problems but card games but that's how the series goes. yugioh zero series dealt with more then card games, but it wasn't released in English due to it's dark story. And agree what better alternative was there pokemon the card game fail.
i agree with doodley the monsters are cool but its boring how they expalning over and over agine, and the thing that bugs me is that they made new serises, like the new one zexel it about a kid who colects dealy cards, not saving the World from a rich man. In a short sentence, BRING BACK YU-GE.
