So much misplaced effort.
The games a mess out of the gate; and there's a lot that can be improved... I can understand making a RPG is hard but seriously.
Information overload; by the first fight I was randomly shooting spikes out at enemies; poison was flying around, symbols I didn't quite understand where cluttering the screen and it was just confusing to look at in general. I learned what was going on (slightly) after a few fights and dicking around with my items but it felt like you have way too much way to fast.
The memes. They can be funny in controlled doses but there's a limit man; every NPC I talked to or... anything was "lol internet humor!!" that really should of died years ago. It's not clever and having your own characters go "Man I'm not clever!" doesn't cover up for the fact it's absolutely groan worthy to be shoveled memes 24/7.
Work on the art. When I killed my first bear the thing turned into some kind of lumpy /thing/ that I couldn't really tell what it was; also when the first area monsters "bit" me the drawing of their mouths was just abysmal. Animation that I found cool years ago; turns out; doesn't hold up very well. Due to the scale of the game I'm not expecting super high quality stuff but still man; your overworld sprites look like something the legendary frog would of crapped out years ago.
The sounds. This is the absolute worst and most offensive. Whenever I got into a fight it sounded like a car was ramming the side of my house. I laughed out loud and genuinely said "What?" when it first happened. The battle sound effects didn't add much either just sounding off or squishy (the spellcasting sound effect was super strange). I'm 90% sure those were all just generic stock sounds but seriously; you made the music (I'm assuming) you can make a few bits that aren't totally offensive to the ears. Also a shame that the victory theme is a rip off of final fantasy when the rest (as far as I can tell) is original.
The base game; everything aside is fine. It's just there's a lot of work to be done; and I had a rather hearty laugh when I saw "buy these skills!" Man; if this thing requires real money I'll lose it.
I cant play past the first area honestly. You can say that descredits my review/thoughts but it's just so... bland; and I can't see myself sitting through a hour or two of "Lol omg xDD LE MONSTERS ARE ATTACKING ROFL" nonsense.
For a flash game this isn't bad. It's actually probably the best flash rpg out there. I can tell a lot of effort went into this and I can appreciate that... it's just so hamfisted and out there.
Though don't worry. This review will probably get buried under heaps of praise or you won't even care. Just felt like typing up my 2 cents on it all.
