Reviews for "GARE"

Overall it was fairly fun. Things I didn't like: I couldn't really tell where I could move with the strange buildings, some being able to walk around and others not. The music is very repetitive. The minimap doesn't seem to help at all. The enemy spawning is weird; at the start you fight a mass of drones going towards the objective, after that you can just pick off small groups at a time. I find the game doesn't show as much of your surroundings as it should.

good but needs work

There's a bug when the game freeze and black screen appear after a mission (sorry for my english)

Quite an interesting little game that kept me entertained for a while, but there are a few concerns I have...

1) The upgrade system suffers badly from power creep, (when you just buy increasingly bigger weapons for increasingly tougher enemies) which makes choices uninteresting, 1-dimentional, no-brainers which doesn't make for a fun game.

In truth each button on the selection panel should lead to an entirely different piece of equipment, (which allows the player a differnt approach to fighting within the game) and at least relegate upgrading said equipment to a seperate button. (If not removing upgrades entirely.)

2) The game can do with a splash of colour, (I mean, everything's just a shade blue!) the enemies at least should be a different colour (perhaps red/orange?), as well as the environment where you should be more inventive with colour schemes, maybe even develop themes (like shades of blue for earlier stages, red shades for later ones.)

3) The missions too are also rather samey, (go here, gather these objects, kill a big enemy) they can do with being a little more diverse in nature, like defend a base, raid a convoy, or maybe something more dynamic, like a mission where you attempt to capture nodes in order to make a 'link' to the enemy's base in order to destroy it, all the while the enemy try's to do the same to yours.

You can even ditch the mission style of gameplay altogether and opt for a more open style of gameplay (like for example, the game "Shellcore: Command" which can be found on this site.)

All in all quite a good game, but could stand to be alot better in my opinion.

PS. My review is rather critical, but that's only because I see so much potential in this game (I mean, this style of game is right up my alley) and I feel this game can be so much more, given enough time and effort.

Great game, a little short, needs multiplayer, sprints, and rockets for extra fun! :D
