Reviews for "Deadswitch"

Awesome game.

Im having a problem when i use the scroll wheel to change my weapons, it scrolls the page down too.
Not sure whats causing it, as when I'm in the main menu and i scroll, the page doesn't scroll.

WilkinGames responds:

Try the game in pop-up mode. Glad you enjoyed it, man!

This game is a mix of the extremely good and the somewhat lacking. Before I go on, though, I should say that because this game is, at the very least, an exceptional base for very large improvements and development, I have to give this very good scores. As well, I am a big fan of the zombie survival mode.

Now, this game does action very well. Especially against the zombies, there is an element of tension and excitement. However, this game fails to deliver in the regular human combat matches, especially deathmatch. Since all of the levels of this game were just level ground with some objects thrown around and a fitting, war torn background, battles just came down to which team was more effective at being cannon-fodder. For a game like this, refer to other side scrolling shooters for inspiration. Add several layers to the action, such as various sorts of platforms, in this game most effectively being rooftops or something similar (as opposed to most games which just give floating platforms). That would add quite a lot of fluidity and character to this game. Right now, most every action is useless. Deathmatches are just "walk toward the enemy side holding down the mouse button and see how many you can shoot before you die." Repeat that until the match is over.

Again, I suggest using a game like Raze (I don't mean to rub in "Oohh this game is soo much better," just giving a comparison you can easily work off of) to see how levels can be made more complex, adding a tactical element to the fighting.

As other people have said, you could add a campaign mode and weapon customization, and perhaps team customization. Related to that, perhaps zoom in a bit more. I don't quite like being so far away from my character, as it makes him just a little brown smudge on the screen. Perhaps, though, that would interfere with other elements of the game mechanic. That I could understand.

As a final request, I would like to ask that you consider this in hopes that it may finally coax the rest of the gaming industry to get moving in the right direction: could you please make the enemies in the campaign of the second game (assuming there is one) the Chinese rather than rebels or terrorists? Maybe that goes against some story established in this game. I just skipped the intro so... yeah. Anyway, it would be so cool to see this game set in the midst of a modern Western Pacific war, started by conflicts involving China versus Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, etc. in various little disputes. Chinese conflicts with those allies of the United States (again, Australia, new Zealand, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, and South Korea) escalate and US Pacific Command joins the battle. I don't know how practical that is for you depending on how far you are into development, but, think about it please.

WilkinGames responds:

Thanks for taking the time to review the game! I don't have a completed storyline for Deadswitch II, but I will consider your idea for sure. I'm glad you enjoyed the Undead Survival mode. :-)
