Reviews for "Castle of the Insect King"

my favorite type of game style, good concept behind the making. just could of used a better play list with the music..got annoying "good thing for the mute button". it was short yet a bit boring...

It was short but sweet. The game had just enough depth for it's length. I did like how each "weapon" had it's strengths and weaknesses. I personally like throwing stingers back at enemies.

You also laid enough clues around that I was never completely lost or didn't know where to go. I especially like how pressure plates are visually linked to what they effect.

I didn't like the menu system or the controls that much. If you're going to require us to use a mouse, the menu should just let us use the mouse to use/select items and mouseover items to get a better descriptions. I see that you use the arrow keys to shoot in the four directions, and you probably wanted to get to that old classic Nintendo feel, but if you have a mouse that allows you to aim and look deeper into corners, then you should of scrapped it, IMO.

Even if I wanted to just play with the arrow keys, you should eliminate the target cursor when ever I use them. Always strafing is visually unappealing and when you try to punch, it's always in the direction of the cursor.

Nice game, enjoyable for a while but kinda gets boring after that. Music is nice but very annoying after a short while

This game is full of bugs. Literally.

3.5 deserved stars for this nice retro style adventure with simple yet effective gameplay, catchy atmosphere and story. Ending is really disappointing and some sections a bit boring, so to explain the 1.5 I had to remove from the total.

I enjoyed playing this. The retro graphics and movement/aiming mechanism appealed to me but I must say it was really just too easy. None of the enemies were challenging at all, even the last guy was a joke due to the insane power of the darts/spikes whatever. I'm not sure what other people mean when they say they needed more hints or couldn't figure it out... the one dude near the statue tells you exactly where to go to get in the castle. Having the checkpoint refill your ammo made it way less challenging. Honestly just punching was so effective you didn't need the gun, and the scorpion gave you a weapon that killed it in 1/2 shots. The ending was also quite abrupt, but I think this game could be expanded on beautifully. If it had a bigger world or longer arc or more different enemies it would really be propelled into greatness in my opinion. I enjoyed your game though so thank you for making it, keep up the good work.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed. I'm currently working on another episode of the series which will be bigger and have more enemy variety. You can check out the development log here: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=29733.0
