I hit a glitch just after being pulled up by the beanstalk, just as I pulled the first (maybe only?) switch. Otherwise, amazing game! Very innovative and mesmerizing. Just the right amount of creepiness, and cuteness. This gets a four and a half, for the glitches that people are getting, but it's also going on my list of favorites! Good job, my brother. Keep up the good work (^___^*)
It is somewhat similar to Hugo, don't you think?
Mostly praise, but some criticism, so let's start with that. It needs to be more fluid- I felt like the controls were somewhat awkward. There are some glitches where the game just freezes up, like trying to press the spacebar and 'a' at the same time. I don't know what's going on in chapter six with the chains, that was a point where I had to check out the walk-through (the only cheat I used, the rest of the puzzles are easy enough to figure out, but am I the only one that couldn't see rhyme or reason to that one?). A bit short but still sweet, a lovely little story.
The Good: Great soundtrack, love the artwork, and made me want to replay it to find all the achievements. Still haven't found one, but that's okay I'll play it again (then go and see if I can find out on that ole inter-web what I'm missing). Again, Art and Music are moody and appropriately atmospheric - love games like this, it's should end up in Newgrounds 'art as games' section.
Fix the controls, flush it out a bit more, keep it mostly b&w but maybe add a splash of color here and there (not even for anything important) and you'd have a 5* rating from me.
Now I have to figure out that last darn achievement!
For those encountering bugs, you can click on the book in the bottom right corner (it appears when you move the mouse over the game) and use it to restart the chapter (or any chapter) as well as to see which achievements you've obtained. Also, neat bug: the moles sometimes show themselves as eating you while you play if you die to them. I think it happens if they eat you immediately after you turn around.
Speaking of the achievements, I have all but the bottom one on the left page. Anyone know how to get it?
