Reviews for "Rebuild 2"

Much more satisfying sim

I found original Rebuild just yesterday, and am pleased that this new game significantly improves the tension during the endgame. I never felt that I had enough resources to feel really safe. I also liked the Church of the Chosen Ones storyline added to the game - those details brought me into the claustrophobic lifestyle of my little post-apocalyptic community.

My only two complaints are that the game played sluggishly on my computer and the overaggressive marketing for another game. Though my pc isn't top-flight any more, it's usually been plenty good enough for older strategy games & simulations (Sempron 2800+, 2 G ram). But after I'd set Rebuild 2 to full-screen I could watch the focus trail slowly after my mouse, and zombie attacks were particularly slow, failing to register my clicks and double-clicks for several seconds. Sometimes I even lost control of scrolling over the city, because the program became so slow to register my mouse drag events. I think I still want to play the game again in spite of this poor performance, but if the programmer were able to optimize the game further it would be even more satisfying for players with less generous hardware.

My second complaint, which is really a minor quibble, is that I felt irritated by the constant reminder of the sponsor's game. The promotion appeared to imply the sponsor was expecting me to become bored with this game at any moment and would appreciate the suggestion to leave for a different game. I appreciate the support the sponsor undoubtedly provided the developer, but I'd feel better towards them if their referral link was reserved for a 'other games' selection off the main menu.

Great update for the first game

Totally not ashamed to admit it, I squealed when I saw this - Rebuild 1 has eaten a good chunk of the last few weeks for me. xD First, the good:

~New artwork is pretty well done - the fight / raid bits in particular were cool and comicbook-ish.
~Collectible items that help with stats totally rocked.
~Idle survivors auto-defending the fort makes out-of-nowhere attacks easier to deal with.
~New endings / journal entries / fight-scenes were just as funny and awesome as the original game. (NGL, the whole smearing-dead-scent "assholes" report cracked me up)
~More interesting side-quests and random moments was a definite yay.
~A 'random' building can become any of the specialty buildings (including housing) - thank you, thank you, this KILLED me in the first one.
~On a similar note, Gustav. Just Gustav.

Though since it IS supposed to be a review, I'll mention some of the nitpicks that bothered me.

~The actual character artwork was often ugly and flat-out creepy; not every hair went with every face, and it made many of them look off. Also, while the "leaders wear suits, builders wear overalls" worked in the first game, it looked a bit weird this time around.

~Going off the last negative - I didn't see why there should be "roles" at all in this version. Since characters (colonists? survivors?) can gain points in all skill catagories, it didn't make sense to try labeling them for their starting stats.

~Scouting / rebuilding has no danger - okay, I know, YMMV. But I thought one of the coolest things about the original game was that EVERYTHING was dangerous. Maybe on the harder difficulties this one changes, not sure. (I've only done "kinda tough")

Also preferred the white-box icons for what buildings had in them - the new ones are a little harder to see - and I'd like some more info on the "scavanging for scraps" option, since I'm not entirely sure what it gives. And an ability to trade extra items to Gustav on your own instead of waiting for the random event would be nice; I ended up with eight pistols and needing food at one point. On the whole, though, I really like Rebuild 2, and I think you did a FANTASTIC job upgrading!

(Is there a list of the endings somewhere? I got the first four - helicopter, cure, war with Last Judgement and constitution - but never had any hint for the fifth one.)

(And I'm still gonna beat the first game on nightmare someday, damnit. xD)

Great

Much better than the first, which I wasn't really a fan of.
The random events and new customization options really add a lot to the game.

yeah, pretty good

it was entertaining enough to keep me awake till 3am... i got 2 endings.. the one with the city hall and the heliport... though it would be nice if you'd see or play a mode where you could actualy kill zombies... its a fun game..

One of my favorite games
