Reviews for "Ninja's Adventure"

Needs much improvement

The guy appears through the ground at the beginning of each stage, half the time the up button doesn't work, he jumps way too high (I get caught in the ceiling). You are probably new to making flash games, but you should've at least made a background to this, let alone try your best with the graphics.

NinjaZeno responds:

Okay, thanks for your review! You are right-- Galooloo and I are both new to TGF2.

not good

needs loads of improvement lucky I'm not the kind of guy that votes everything down
so it's a 2 for me
on both rating systems

NinjaZeno responds:

Okay, thanks for your review!

Buggy

Here's a list of bugs to work on that I noticed (welcome to the life of a programmer :P. It gets easier eventually, though.)

1 - your guy starts below the level of the ground sometimes, so he can't move sideways until he jumps. He should start either at the level of the ground (if that can be done easily) or a little bit above the ground so he just falls to the ground at the start of the level (if he can't be made to start right at ground level easily)

2 - you can only jump while you're moving sideways, and can't jump if you're standing still

3 - when you jump high enough to hit the ceiling, you lose sideways momentum, which makes it tough or impossible to jump over stuff. Ideally, you just want him to lose upward momentum when he hits the ceiling, which would require your code to distinguish between ceiling collision and wall collision and handle them differently. Or if you're lazy, just don't let the guy jump high enough to touch the ceiling. Or if you're super lazy, say that the ceiling is covered with superglue and it's your job as a player to not touch it. But then you would still need to make jump height change depending on how long you hold down the jump button.

4 - just make the guy die if he goes outside the play area, or put a wall around the area, instead of saying in the comments to not go outside of it.

Once the mechanics are working nicely, focus on level design and better graphics and some sound if you feel like it

NinjaZeno responds:

Alright. I'll work on that. Thanks for your review ;)

Not even a beta version

Since you're new to programming I'm not going to shred this game into pieces and destroy it. Instead, here are some suggestions, which, I hope, will be helpful :)
-Take care of the graphics and sound: presentation is huge in a flash game
-You can't jump when you stand still... not sure why
-Falling off the screen should be a death. Just add lava on the bottom of the screen
-The enemy AI could be smarter
-Touching the ceiling just ruins some levels. It's really easy to make the guy jump a little bit less-he doesn't need the sumper jump!
-Make a long game, with creative levels and diversity thrown in.

Those are basic stuff you should work on. Do not, however, keep posting games like these. I'm sure you could fix all this stuff and give us a full working game we'd all love.

Another thing, I never worked with The Games Factory, and, for that reason, I don't know it's limitations. But I would recommend using Flash. Yes, it will take time, but you'll be proud of yourself once you get something great.

NinjaZeno responds:

Okay, thank you for your review.

I didn't get past the first stage. The lava explanation thing is a physical object that ironically causes me to fall into the lava below. Also I noticed you only jump when moving and sometimes never return when jumping off screen.

Graphics: 2

Graphics are dreadful, even by MY standards, and I like simple graphics. I can barely identify what the pictures represent. At least use some thicker paintbrush instead of pencil- drawn lines.

Sound: 0

There's no sound.

Violence: 3

The theme promises a lot of violence, but sadly, I wasn't able to play long enough to see any of it.

Interactivity: 7

It's a platformer, so there's lots of interaction involved.

Humor: 1

I wasn't at all pleased by the graphics and gameplay. I got stuck behind the screen and just frustrated at the lava sign preventing me from jumping!

Overall: 2

Actually, I should vote to blam this, but the errors in this game are clearly not made on purpose so I'll give you guys some slack.
