Finally!

I've been freaking waiting for a touhou like game.

Evolving Spaceship

Gameplay:10 First off it was awsome gameplay was legit movements were sly and suprisingly dodging bullets wasn't super hard i love it it remided me of that game were theirs different type of planes and you would take on a boss from time to time.

Graphics:9.7 It was legit only problem i had was when to many bullets pop up on my screen my computer would have a seziure but other than that good job

Music: 9.5 other than some music loop to many times it was legit

Overall: Nice game I hope to see a number 2 with more evolution paths and more greater graphics

Galaga on steroids!

Great game. I love the whole evolving process, that was awesome.

Graphics: 10/10
The graphics were good for a neat pixely style. There isn't really anything that could be done for graphics, although some may like a "fancy" graphic setting or something like that. The backgrounds were nice, the second last level really fucked with your eyes... I LIKED THAT!

Sound: 8/10
The sound was fairly well done. The music fit so perfectly for the epic battles on each level. The only thing that bothered me was some repetitiveness of some sort in the sound tracks. But that's just me.

Game Play: 10/10
Holy crap! This game takes space shooters to a whole new level! There are so many bullets. The challenge to kick ass and dodge millions of bullets is amazing. Yes, this game definitely deserves the secondary title "Bullet Hell Shooter". The choices for power-ups or evolving are nice, it makes me feel like I have a say on what goes on. The last level is astounding, it's meant only for the true players. Those levels make you feel a bit of a rush, it's almost impossible for me to describe how it feels to play this game.

Overall Quality: 9.3/10
Man, this game made me feel like I was back in the arcade blasting away bad guys. Great job for bringing that feeling back to me! The sound is good, just perhaps a slight variety or choices with songs. The game-play is amazing, there are a decent amount of levels. I'm happy with this game. There isn't much to add/fix. The things I suggested are just minor things, you don't really have to worry about them. Anyway, awesome game Squize, I hope to see more from you.

Keep up the good work!

Squize responds:

Wow, thanks man.
I remember the first time I played Defender in the arcades ( I'm old ), and it just blew me away, it was deafeningly loud and so in your face it was untrue.
Every shooter I code is a homage to that, one day I'll get it right, and everyone will hate it apart from me :)

wow thats impressive

the boss was like touhou 6

Interesting title, but...

I like this game, to be perfectly honest...but it has some flaws. First off, the pods will take shots for you, which greatly reduces the difficulty of the game once they're acquired. Secondly, the boss that shoots three streams of red bullets at you is an OVERWHELMING source of free lives; I gained about 15 free lives each time I faced it simply by grazing the edges and filling up my meter to gain a free life once every two or three bursts. Finally, the game is short; an option to explore other evolution trees without starting over would be nice. Still a solid shooter, if not quite what I would call Bullet Hell...more like Bullet Purgatory.

Squize responds:

So many people have said it'd be cool to restart but keep your mutations. It really would rock. The problems with that being:
* Number of sprites. There would be an insane number of player bullets and it would affect performance on a lot of machines.
* Difficulty balance. I'd have to make all the baddies take a lot more hits ( On the 2nd play through ) otherwise there would no challenge. The thing then is the power-ups won't be as powerful. It's a really tricky thing to get right.
Maybe a "Mental mode" would have been cool, where you're just armed to the teeth and just face bosses.

Thanks for the review, good points raised.
