Well Crap, here it goes.

Now that I've finally beaten the first boss, I can give some judgement on this game. Super Pixelknight is obviously a homage to super ghouls 'n ghosts and the NES Castlevania trilogy. But does it live up to the sheer greatness of those games, um...no, but it does do a good job of giving me the feeling of playing a classic NES/SNES platformer.

Pixelknight 1 and 2 had a more simplistic graphical style, and were more like self- defending tower defense games, or moreover that was how Pixelknight 1 felt in terms of gameplay, Pixelknight 2 had the same controls and graphics, but tried to replicate a classic 2D sidescroller platformer, and I need to say, it somewhat succeeded while the game was fun, it was unfair, and you would die a lot of cheap deaths.

This game decided to update the style a bit, and give you the amazing ability to duck,now you can avoid enemy attacks easier, and hit short enemies, plus the music is spectacular. There are more weapons now too, my favorites are the boomerang and the hammer. Another new feature is the ability to cast magic spells, which really helps hit enemies that your weapon can't hit immediately,or it can get enemies away from you, unfortunately, all of the magic spells are very weak and don't help much when you're in a tight jam. while some spells, like the red energy spell, actually are useful, but usually only protect you on one side.

There are bosses, but I've only beaten the first one, and it took me 2 tries, he is a red head with horns on a snake of balls (No innuendo intended). I don't know what the other ones are. The enemies are finally many and numerous, the most annoying of which are the flying enemies. While there are more enemies, that means there are more kinds of cheap deaths, which is a bad thing.

I know for a fact that this is the best of the Pixelknight games, but it still has some of the annoying issues from the older ones, for that, I present thee:

an 8/10
and a 4/5.

Okay, I guess...

This game really could've been excellent. It's an obvious homage to Ghosts N Goblins, nice level design, and varied spells, weapons, and enemies. However, it's drawback is a big one. The weapons themselves seem to do equal damage. That's a big problem, because their spells and throwing arcs are very different. I.E.-The boomerang. The boomerang is slow, and has limited range, yet it does as much damage as the quick, long-ranged dagger. The ax also has a weak through, but does as much damage as the rest of the weapons. It seems that you'd only pick a different weapon for a different spell. And while I'm talking about the spells, the work a little odd. Some spells have a shotgun spread to them, but, a monster can only be hit by one of the projectiles in a given spell. While that helps with being surrounded by weak enemies, when you get the tougher enemies, you can't hit them with the full force of a spell to take them down quickly. That really should be the player's option to try to hit several enemies with the spell, or to use it all on a tougher enemy. This is very important with the bosses. In summation, it just seems unfinished.

Fun but needs improvements

1. Balance the weapons. Every weapon doing the same damage is... just not as fun.
2. The magic for the shuriken weapon doesn't work sometimes... it just won't trigger
3. Is there supposed to be music for the final boss? it didn't play for me if so.
4. Even if I had ZERO points the high score screen would come up and ask me to submit my high score, is there an option to turn that off? Got reaaaallly annoying hitting cancel over and over and over again.

lots of bugs

fun to play, but lots of bugs. the continue button doesn't work, if click it, screen just goes black. If you chose save and quit, you go to menu but all buttons are dead, can't click anything. When I died i had to refresh page, load game again, was really annoying

Seriously couldn't find this game for the life of me after I first played it while on the front page... then wondered why it was NOT on the front page seeing how awesome this game is ! Its truly fun to play over and over again but my only complaint would be that the Axe is way too out balanced , you get it at the beginning and you're guaranteed to never die if you're used to Castlevania/adventure island. The falchion blows because its too slow , the orb is useless , hammer is just silly lol

But yeah , get the axe because it doesnt have a delay between shots , just keep shooting while the screen scrolls and you'll pwn any monsters before even seeing them move xD The magic ball it summons also rapes about anything , specially the final boss.

Oh also , I dont like how there's no weapon stronger than the other's a.k.a always needing the same number of hits.
