Reviews for "Turing Test"

oh wow

Okay maybe this doesn't fit perfectly into robot day theme but it's a damn good cartoon anyway.

This sent a shiver down my spine, the music was absolutely fitting and I was in tension since the "bot" said the first sentence. I'm still kinda touched by that, one of the creepiest most psycho-scary things I've seen lately, gotta fav it.

Jimtopia responds:

I wasn't exactly going for "creepy psycho-scary," creepy maybe, but not "creepy psycho-scary." But hey it works, glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the review.

wow, just wow

that was awesome, as someone who programs chatbots in his free time, I'd love to see a sequal to this.

Jimtopia responds:

I wish I had the programming knowledge to make my own chat bots, but alas I do not. It's awesome that you do though, the idea behind chat bots has always fascinated me.

Also I wouldn't get your hopes up about a sequel, but I appreciate the kind words all the same.

Surprisingly Profound - A Must-See!

Being based on a story gave Jimtopia an edge in cinema direction and a convincing plot. Of course, if the plot of the base story didn't grab him, he would never consider a Flash.

This is an excellent entry into Robot Day. It should go directly on top of that Robo3000 Flash or whatever (it is about five years old, for one) to represent this year's finest batch of entries. The Turing Test, if you didn't Wiki it, is when you try to gauge the intelligence of an artificial mind. This story is an excellent moral drama that ought to be repeated over and over, drummed into humanity's minds until our compassion for something is not limited to one's estimate of another being's intelligence.

Please stick around Newgrounds, Jimtopia. Even if the Flash is, at its core, exceptionally basic, it speaks far more volumes than anything else that has been created for Robot Day 2010.

Jimtopia responds:

Wow, wow wow wow. Never have I had a review that really made me feel this good. I must thank you sir. It's like you took everything that I hoped people would see in the movie and put it into words. Thank you very much. I'm really honored that you enjoyed it as much as you did, and I'm glad you see what I was trying to convey with my little cartoon.

Also, I intend to stick around Newgrounds for as long as I'm able to keep animating, so don't worry about that. The only problem now is, there's no way I'm gonna be able to top this for next year.

Thanks again!

That Was Actually Quite Chilling...

Anyway, as for whether or not this qualifies for bot day. I'd say of course a chat bot qualifies as a robot. Not only for the fact that this "bot" has an advanced AI, but also for the fact that it is a "bot" so tho say.

So yes this qualifies, and Issac Asimov would be proud.

Jimtopia responds:

Thank you, good to know I have the ability to create this thing the pro's call "atmosphere."

Very cool

It kinda floors me that you're the mind behind one of the lightest cartoons on newgrounds, and then you come up with something like this. Great choice in music; that really pushed the movie to the next level. I do agree with the one guy, watching a chat log generally isn't the most entertaining thing in the world, but I think you made it work. Really well, at that.

The only thing I'd recommend would be to make the kid's glasses a different color; they're kinda hard to see. Maybe up the contrast in the kid's room, too. Beyond that though, everything looks great. The chat log was well designed, loved the kid's expressions, and the timing with that final line was spot-on. Looking forward to more like this!

Jimtopia responds:

My brother had the same idea with his glasses color, and I will admit, it is hard to tell that they're there, but when I was designing the character, I was trying to put a lot of emphasis on the eyes, and I thought making the glasses a lighter color would be the right way to go, but in retrospect, it was probably not the best idea. Ah well, hindsight's 20/20 I suppose.

I'm glad you mentioned the final line, because that went through a lot of workshopping before I finally got it just right, and I'm happy that you mentioned it. Thanks for the review man. Now GET ON SKYPE. BLARGH.
