I love the style you went with on this!

Thanks :)

Gotta love the style - Awesome fantasy/history!

It's pretty awesome - Things like the overlay made a huge difference. In my opinion, without the overlay the animation would have looked slightly bland, because you did not put much detail into the characters. But that is fair enough, there were so many characters to draw, so it was more economical.

Otherwise, the only thing that doesn't give this a 10/10 is the music at the beginning. You can edit audio to start instantly at the beginning, and leave no delay, so it is loopable. The transition from history to fantasy was epic xD

Above and Beyond

As a fan of history (particularly crusades) I really enjoyed the piece. As for the fantasy elements that some others have mentioned, I would not judge an animation like this on its authenticity value. Perhaps if you got the year wrong, then there'd be a REAL problem. Instead, we're talking about the fact that a dragon and a lion man (amongst others) have been admitted into the short. This animation is clearly not about trying to give us small accurate details, but about giving us a more broad idea of the battle, and that idea is, there were plenty of Turks who were (well, who appeared to be) numerically superior, and that there were soldiers as strong as giants, and men as brave as lions. And what is wrong with that? - Bugger all! However, I must add that by not putting in AS many different 'symbollic heroes' (as I viewed them to be) you may have had time to focus more on say two of them, rather than so briefly seeing four. Having said that, the whole thing was brief, though I am sure if you could have finished the battle, you would have.

I loved the setting, and I can't complain if you've not animated an entire army of soldiers. I thought it was easy to watch - I found it quite loveable in fact. There was dread at the start, carnage at the end and fatalities throughout - is this not the stuff of battle? If this could be adapted as a game (which I presume is taking the project far from where you had intended to put it) I agree it could be grand game; I think if we could see a second part, it could finish a grand tale; yet even as it stands now, for what it is - a short animation for one of your college projects - it is quick, colourful, well done, (and very tense) short about a very proud moment in Malta's history.

You've gone above and beyond in this man's humble opinion - well done.

Twas...ok.

The texture you shoved over the top annoyed me. It seems a lot of animators now days are putting textures over their animations as a cheat way to make it look 'detailed'. Also there really wasnt much animation to it. All I saw was average drawn characters with slight tweens. You got the right idea but keep working at it.
