Interesting, but could be way better
Essentially a long quick-time event with a looping background, except instead of reacting to visual button cues, you react to sounds. Graphics are nice and the controls are simple enough, BUT...
For people who don't outright know, here's what makes the game "difficult"
- The coloration of some objects makes them difficult to see in time (like the log), though this only becomes a problem as more obstacles are introduced in faster sequence.
- Dodging arrows basically involves repeatedly tapping A or S until the arrows pass. It'd be nice if say, holding S allowed you to just STAY down against the horse, and for A to make you KEEP your shield up, since that would make sense.
- As you get onto harder parts of whichever mode you're playing, stuff will start to come out one after another, and the delay in Hippolyta getting back to default position results in times where you simply won't be able to recover in time to deal with the next obstacle.
- The saving is limited to overall status. So if your browser crashes (or you just go back to menu), you're going to have to start Story mode the whole way over
- There's no room for error at all, and no checkpoints either, so you screw up once and you're back to the beginning of the level
- Sometimes, you'll hear the audio cue of something that will happen in a moment, but have to deal with an immediate obstacle before you get to it. This can often lead to you responding to the audio cue, which completely fucks you over unless the next actual obstacle can be dealt with the same way.
Honestly, I've gotten tired of games whose claim to fame is "difficulty." It basically translated to me as "I'm too lazy to employ multiple levels of difficulty so more people can play my game" and "I'm too stubborn to realize that some people play games for entertainment value rather than frustration." I tried this out because it looked interesting, and it was, but there's plenty that could have been done to get it to appeal to more people.
