Reviews for "Theia"

Interesting, but has a few flaws

This game is pretty good. It takes the old simple "push blocks and solve puzzles" concept and throws in a bunch of curveballs that make it more complicated and entertaining. The visuals are all great, the music is great.

However, gameplay itself is a little iffy. The character controls are a little tough to master sometimes, and collision detection seems a little to generous on certain objects. Level 9 is the first real example of that, as avoiding the gauntlet of enemies took more luck than skill. I mean the character is not moving that quickly, it isn't a factor of reaction time, it's a factor of you can't tell when you're going to hit something or not. Then you are suddenly walking into a wall for no reason and splat you're dead.

Also, bosses that are based on simply doing it over and over and over until you've memorized a series of things is just cheap, and uninspired. For such a creative game, making players sit through some of the most hated aspects of gaming and memorize things for the sake of memorization doesn't really reward them for just figuring out all those tough puzzles. What the hell is the point of all the puzzle gaming if it ends up just being a simple memory game in the end?

I like this game a lot. There's some really cool stuff going on in it. But it seems like parts of the game were sort of tacked on, such as these quicktime events. Don't make things difficult by making them cheap, make them difficult by making them hard to figure out and difficult to execute.

All right

Puzzle games should be more tile based than this. This game is always about moving just the right number of pixels to avoid an enemy. And some levels have ways to glitch through them because you can move in unpredictable ways.

Since I can't seem to get past a yellow Bubba no matter what, I'm gonna have to give up on level 22. I'm surprised I made it this far.

its all very hard >_<

exspecially the ending! :(
thats why i hate ittttttt too hardddd

Sorry about that, but easy games are for pussies!

Immersive

Boy oh boy, this game took me awhile to complete.

From the very beginning you open up beautifully with a creative world and gorgeous animation. I love your use of colors in the intro and the animation was just flawless. As far as the story for this piece is concerned, it was kind of cliche, but still was powerful enough to make me want to save that planet. Controls could be a bit bothersome at times, but overall wasn't too bad, very simple and responsive if you know what you're doing. The gameplay, with heavy puzzle influences was downright brutal. I played through this game without a walkthrough and I must say the later levels become frustratingly difficult, but I also loved this about the game. it kept me busy for over three hours, not many games can do that.

Sometime when I feel I'm up to it I'll go for the God Score medal, but for now i felt I should review this, while it's still fresh in my mind. The level designs were creative and really took some thought to complete, and I really enjoyed that. The graphics for the backgrounds are nice to look at, during gameplay, and the diversity of the puzzles was a nice addition as well.

I'll get into where this game has flaws, the first being the save system. With a code system, people will be able to skip straight to the end and where is the fun in that? For your next project I highly suggest doing away with the password system. Next we have the difficulty of the end boss. I literally had to memorize what button to press before I finally beat him and I don't feel it was best to end this marvelous game that way. I watched the ending sequence flustered due to the insane boss battle. I think a puzzle level with a creative way to harm the boss would have been better, but this is just personal opinion.

Moving on to the music for this game, very nicely done. Every song has a melody to it that really stimulates the fact that this is a strange planet, and makes me want to learn more about it. The music overall was just perfect for me, so no complaints there. The fact it's all original pieces by you makes it just that much better in my eyes.

I'll try and wrap this up, I suppose I talk to much.

+points
Unique and interesting world
Challenging level design
Lovely music
Beautiful animation (notably the intro and ending scenes)
Original story
Medals

-points
For some, too hard level design
Basically had to memorize end boss sequence, no fun
Password save system allows skipping of levels

Overall this was a ton of fun to play and I can really tell you put tons of effort into this one. Keep up the amazing work and good luck on future projects!

looks great + feels great = Great

so far as i played this game is really into puzzles and i like it
looks great too
altho its rather linear with the sounds and music

id say if u cant beat it once go do it again
playing a game and then quiting cos u cant get past the first monster is just part of the gameplay
