What a PREPOSTEROUSLY bad video game.
I don't want it to sound like I'm just being mean out of hand, I use the word preposterous because the things that are wrong with this game are ultimately just the result of lazy design. They are things that should never have to be seen by players. There is nothing wrong with the story here. There was an opportunity here to tell a very good story.
What went wrong was the overall effort put into clean game design. For one thing, this game is absolutely full of bugs. They're everywhere. From detection flaws caused by the detection zones being large rectangles much larger than the enemies, to gunfire effects that persist after the level is over, to inability to change easily from weapon to weapon. Add on top of that auto-firing weapons that spend more than half of the time shooting at nothing at all, and the other half shooting at enemies you've already shot down (not to mention that enemies you've shot down block you from shooting enemies that are quickly slipping past your defenses), and the sloppy and unimaginative sprite animation, and this game becomes literally painful to play.
Then there is the matter of how your progress in the game is measured: by your (or your finicky autocannons') ability to shoot a moving rectangle of static that always appears before the level actually begins, and always in the same place. No skill, luck or wits required, it just shows up every few levels before you even begin playing and gets shot.
What this game needs desperately is a great deal more care put into it. Animations need to be cleaner, movement needs to be smoother, controls need to be fine-tuned, and detection has to be tightened up dramatically. More than anything, this game appears to have suffered from an enormous lack of play-testing.
