Interesting
The legendary Krinkels returns again to a series that has elevated him to a hero of Newgrounds. Things are different this time around. In a sharp turn from the dystopian world of "kill the dissenter" and hideous massive monsters that was found in Madness 5-9, 5.5 returns, somewhat to Krinkels' roots in the original, plain and simple butchering of standard foes without rhyme, reason, or cause. Also interesting is this episodes' focus on melee weapons as opposed to firearms. I actually enjoyed this as it seemed to ratchet up the tension when they began using uns.
I will say that this episode had a much better "flow" in the fighting then some of the occasionally awkward shootouts in earlier versions. Enemies actually get shots off, which must be avoided, as opposed to Hank's method of simply managing to shoot everyone before they can raise their weapon.
Towards the end the series takes a great leap forwards to the surrealist landscapes that became more common in Krinkels' later works. At this point in madness, I've guess I'm starting to wonder if the bizarre and deadly world of madness will ever be fully explained. A plot has been hinted at in some episodes, and I'm curious for a more full explanation.
Never the less, I was very pleased by Madness 5.5. I feel like the previous madness wasted some potential by turning Hank into a monster and killing off the utterly badass duo of Sanford and Deimos.
Keep up the good work, Krinkels. I appreciate that you are trying to keep the series new and vibrant.
