Reviews for "Ge.ne.sis"

Beautiful.

The donation part got me in the end, since I was quite curious about the Lovers Tarot, so that was the only reason it was one star off, I'm afraid. While I understand the donations are optional, some people might not have the opportunity to help out, regardless.

Everything else? The music score, animation, gameplay, creativity, detail? 11 out of 10 stars, all the way ~

Slightly lacking on the in-game interaction and options with the NPC population in my opinion, but then again, this game flowed well enough without it.

Overall, great game, and I highly anticipate the sequel.

(No idea what the guy rating 0 was thinking.)

98% complete

Waited to write a review until I finished everything this game had to offer.

First to alot of the people having trouble with this game, there is a strategy guide. If you're stuck on one of the game's gimmick fights, read it and you'll know why the fight seems insanely hard. Nothing in this game is hard once you figure out the basics, not even Tale.

Now on to the actual game. It's probably one of the best on this site, sadly it will remain a sleeper. Is the dialogue amazing? It has its moments which is more than you can say about alot of games. Is the plot unique? It's an RPG. Every RPG follows the same plot, just names get changed. The art is top notch for a flash. The music is pretty damn good as well. However that isn't the main thing getting it a good score.

What's getting it a good score is combat system and in turn the Perk system. While the combat system favors strategy over everything else, the combat system would be bland without the Perk system. The Perk system adds a nice flavor to the game you don't expect to see in a flash game. Has there been other games to do something similar? Yes. Is it often that you see something like this and actually done well? Not really. Often a system like this has a "god mode" route and a "you're doing it wrong" route.

No matter which way you set up your stat points and perks, you could beat the game with similar difficulty to another path you could take. The gameplay would be different, you would need different tactics, but it was still beatable. Granted part of what made that work was the lack of options when picking your Perks and levels being a set in stone thing, rather than something to endlessly grind to make things easier... However that actually made for a better game (so far).

If this project continues and more chapters are released, I hope that there are more options to use within the Perk system, yet not at the cost of falling into the same old mistakes many games make with systems like this.

So what's keeping me from giving this a 10? Lovers to start with. What's the deal with that tarot? The strategy guide lists it as a special reward for people who helped support this game being made? Yet apparently the ownership of Lovers factors into % complete and actually quite a bit of the strats listed in that guide. I understand you wanted to give something special to people who donated. That's cool, but the rest of us are getting dicked because of it. Sisily is an incomplete character without it and we all get to use her. I would suggest you add in Lovers and figure out a new toy for those who donate that doesn't have such a detrimental effect on gameplay.

And the other things? Well I said I don't expect amazing dialogue or plot, but I expect basic spell checking and grammatical correctness. Then there are the minor bugs to major bugs (killing Rectiful).

"A True Work of Art"

One word to be said "ART"

It is my opinion that video games are the most complete form of art available
to humanity as of rate, combining visual, sound , and viewer interaction. Among them, independent games are usually the most flexible of forms since they
are not bound by profits and dead lines like commercial games do, which in turn, leaves them with more possibilities and and Ideas that would otherwise not be
realized.

I have played many flash games before, but this peculiar game here has caught my senses. Such harmony among all three elements of gaming experience,
It has truly been a long time since the last time I encountered such a pleasing
piece of work, especially considering this piece has managed to reach such
perfection as a "Flash Game", which tends to lack one of the elements.
But this piece has overcome such difficulties, and with so few people involved
in developing it too.

So I give a full score of Ten out of Ten I have never given out before.
It deserves it, as a "True master piece".

(PS. It reminded me of a Very old Korean game called "Tempest : Genesis Wars",
not only because of the title, but because of the "Tarot card system", and the
Side-viewing, grid tactics system. It makes me so nostalgic, thinking about how
they used to make games in the past, "they don't make it like they used to"
is what I would say. (oh... that made me sound old... I'm not, really! :)

Meh, beat it in 20 mins...

(20 mins+ possible 9 hours...) Haha, well, it took long enough, and though, i'll admit, at times my mind strayed from the repetitiveness of the game... somewhere in the middle of the storyline i belive. But then i met the mighty clock, which fell rather quickly, giving me a bit of a second wind, which continued to increase with the power of well... power. For the longest time my characters seemed to be right on the border, following along with the level increase of the enemies i was facing, which is something i despise because i put alot of effort into getting as powerful as possible in rpg's. And then all of a sudden, after entering the whole "imagination" world, my efforts suddenly showed their pretty little heads, and i flew through each of the 9 level's with, i challenging/desirable ease.
And of course as soon as i start to fall completely head over heals with the game and characters. It ends... No "devil egg boss." No alternate upside down dimension. No praise whatsoever. Just a screen telling me.
"Oh, you're not done, there's a nothing 9 hours you gotta waste"
And you know what?! YOU know what i say to that!!

"Curse you Kakarot!"

(But really though. Great game. I still think you're an ass hole. But you're an ass hole who can make a great game. haha)

Great Game

Great storyline and fun combat! :D Though lag was sort of an issue (I had to switch to low quality), and I'd have liked for the option to eliminate some attack graphics......enjoyable nonetheless, and challenging! Some parts of the conversations seemed a bit off, but otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed this game.
