Reviews for "cronusX"

i made top 10

great gameplay, great visuals, and great enemy AI. the powerup system worked well. im glad to see a game that plays through well but doesnt go way more in-depth than it needs too. great game, hope to see more similar.

Jaw Dropping

the graphics, gameplay, and music Exceeded all my expectations
you have truly brought back a classic

Nice

Very nicely done, graphics/sounds are great. Marked it down 2 points because of a few things that bugged the hell out of me;

-The automatic pause when i move my cursor to the edge of the screen, having to take my hands of my controls to unpause the game after flicking my mouse to try and shoot something behind me is annoying =/

-No sound controls mid game, didn't really want to start again just to turn the music down.

-Mobs than spawn directly on top of me and cause me to instantly take damage with no way of avoiding it.

-powerups switching weapons for me, not nice diving into a group of seekers to grab a missile upgrade, then find i cant kill anything. I found the missile weapon more of a hindrance than anything as well, just splits random asteroids so you end up with a million to dodge, cant kill enemy's with it and i didn't really find it killed asteroids faster than spread anyway.

Great review mate, you've pretty much nailed all the faults with it.

* The auto pause is a love it / hate it thing. In retrospect I should have just enabled the player to click to continue. I'm sure there was a reason for that, but it escapes me atm.
* Yep, I should have put the option on the right mouse button menu ( As there's no way to have an on-screen button. Plus I hate them ).
* The game does check for that, and you don't actually lose any energy. I should have given the player sprite a more obvious shield to show that. Lazyness on my behalf.
* The missile is a weird power-up. I couldn't do much more with it as it is costly running those trails in terms of cpu time. I think it adds a different dimension to the game in that it's partly lame, but still useful.
I normally destroy the initial wave of big rocks with the pulse / spread, then when there are smaller rocks switch to missile and then back to one of the other weapons. So long as the missiles are in flight you can switch back to one of the meatier weapons, so they can do their job while you concentrate on other things.

Thanks again for playing the game and the excellent comments. If some bugs crop up and I do a v1.1 I'll try and drop all your ideas in there.

Sweet game missing only the thrust

Lovely graphics. Rock solid execution. Nice menu system and it plays well. But I agree with others who say that removing the inertia / momentum that the original has makes removed a little of its soul too. The thrust was important as it meant you could continue blasting something, while moving, without thinking about moving (the asteroids "drift kill" ability). Sorry but I miss it too :)

crazy twist

to a great classic! this ROCKS.
