Reviews for "Release"

Oh, I really like this one. I enjoy the dark overtone it has as it starts out, definitely a plus in my book. I've always been a fan of dark-sounding music personally. The whole song seems like it would be good as background music for something like a consistent spree of bad guys winning battles. The whole flow of it fits together perfectly with the guitar and the rest of the music.

Definitely well made, I can certainly say that I will be looking forward to hearing more of your work. This is more than enough to convince me that you are extremely talented at this. This is one of those rare songs that sends chills down my spine.

EagleGuard responds:

That really is a huge compliment for me, thank you! I'm glad the dark tone would be fitting enough for the scene you describe: that's exactly the kind of stuff I had in mind! I don't write this kind of music very often, so I'm glad you enjoyed the outcome. Maybe I'll write some more 'dark music' in the future as well.

Thanks for the review!

very nice song, in my opinion, maybe it could've had more parts to it, like maybe change more, but it looks like you really did put effort in it, but the song ends a little ubruptly, maybe it could fade out a little instead of a drop end to it, and it to me it seems a little short, maybe you could add more sound FX and make it a little longer

EagleGuard responds:

Glad you liked it! Yes, other people have told me about the abrupt ending as well, so I'll certainly keep that in mind for future productions! Regarding the length of the song, I guess one could always extend the song a bit, but at the time I was pleased with the length of the piece as it is now =)

Thanks for the review!

Very good music, remember themes from Unreal Tournament 2004

EagleGuard responds:

Thanks! You're right, it does sound a bit like that =)

Not bad! I'm not usually a fan of electronic stuff but this had some really cool elements to it. There were some nice and catchy melodies and 'riffs'.... however, as I listen to this one its BEGGING me to be turned into a guitar driven track. Some of those riffs would have been PERFECT for a distorted guitar!
I thought that guitar that was there was rather weak in sound... a bit fizzy sounding. I don't feel it added much of anything to the track. It's something you could take out and probably not notice.
The spooky synth coming in around 2:14 was pretty distracting. I thought maybe a more traditional instrument, like violins (or the guitar) could have served that nice melody better. Or even just less reverb. I think the problem might be it's too echo-y. The violins that do follow it are a bit lost and sound like they are meandering a bit too much.
Have you ever heard of Evergrey (they are a dark progressive metal band)? The synth in their early work sounded similar to this. Maybe that's why I have such a strong urge to hear a more prominent guitar part... you are touching on one of my influences!
Despite my nit-picking its a strong track and I feel the only real weakness is the guitar part. This is a very nice dark ambient track and I could see it sitting in a more progressive metal vein too.

EagleGuard responds:

Haha, believe me, adding a guitar to an otherwise electro-orchestral track at all was a huge gamble for me, because it's usually either electro-orchestral, or rock-orchestral. Some more rock-elements could work out really well though, and I might do something like this again in the future. I'll try to implement your feedback as well for later projects :)

Thanks for the review and I'm glad you liked it!

Hey EagleGuard,

This is a solid song! I loved the intro, it has a nice feel of urgency to it that I really dig. The strings you used in the introduction and throughout the remainder of the song were a little bit too loud compared to the other instruments. It created a bit of an unbalance within the song. Perhaps you could turn them down slightly and add a little reverb to them so that it blends better with the other electronic elements. Otherwise though, I must say that I generally love the mix of the two. I have to admit that I didn't really see this as an ambient piece, mainly due to the percussion, strings and the guitar work. Everything is a tad too loud to be considered 'ambient' (though my definition of ambient is more relaxed 'background' music, and I could be completely wrong lol). Back to the percussion and guitar work. The percussion was nicely arranged, coming in at all the right parts and giving the song that nice upbeat quality while the guitar added some tension to the song.

The only other gripe I have about this is the ending. It sort of just trails off. I was expecting a suspenseful finish.

In my opinion, this would work great in a game. I agree with BFeltMusic. The song definitely reminded me of Mass Effect. Based on the instruments you have used it would suit well with the FPS genre, though I'm positive it would do well in others too! :D

I think this is a great song overall! Keep up the great work! :)

EagleGuard responds:

Hey man, thanks for taking your time to write such an extensive review!

I never really thought about the possibility that the strings sounded too loud, as I usually use my headphones to monitor the mix. I'm still kind of new to mixing and mastering, so I'll definitely try to improve using the points you've mentioned.

As for the ending, I guess I was a bit 'lazy' when I made that, but to be honest, I couldn't really think of anything special to end the song, so I just went with what it is now. Again, I'll keep it in mind for future productions.

I'm glad you liked the piece as a whole, and thanks again for the feedback!
