Reviews for "Sparks and Dust"

Great

I felt obligated to review this game, simply because so many other games on the main page SUCK and I wanted to review something that didn't.

This game is extremely well designed and very very creative. I can't say I've ever seen a game that ran quite like this, so I'm very impressed with the originality.

The controls are simple, yet allow some complexity of actions. Well done there.

The only minor complaints I can make: the attacking is so simple, that sometimes I get beat by an enemy because all I can really do is jump and smash. The enemies could be more easy to predict and therefore combat.

Also, the hover button could probably have been a diff button than the jump button, simply because sometimes I mean to hover, accidentally let go of jump, and then slam down plummeting to my death in a pit I wanted to hover over.

All in all: good job.

dropped frr

nice graphics aspecially with the sand an dclouds that poof up

not that difficult but enjoyable, just bugged me that one some moment trha frr dropped hard and it just ruined the game, thats a minor

Cool!

This is a cool game, I liked the look and feel. I took off one point because the controls were a little wonky.

Very fresh.

Beautiful game. Well-executed. Extremely unique in every way I could see. I liked the whole air-boost item-grabbing system. And the power absorption leading to a powerful spell after a 'float'. And the fact that you could fully affect every part of the ground and warp the landscape in any way was just brilliant. Interesting art design on the enemies as well. I would've given it a full ten except for a couple things. Once you smash the ground in certain spots, it makes it impossible to get to some stuff. Stuff you'll generally need or stuff that's just nice to have. But if you meant that to add to the strategy and challenge, then kudos. I also wasn't too keen on a jump attack being the ONLY attack. Do us all a solid and add some grounded hand to hand combat please. Lastly, I saved up ALL my money to buy a secret because I figured it was something I needed (seeing as how they start at $800 and only go higher), and I bought the $950 one. It told me to check empty caverns. Really; what the hell man?! Not cool. I stopped playing immediately. Sorry, I just built myself up for it. I thought it was some kind of upgrade. But it was just a useless hint that everybody already knows by that point in the game. HARDLY a secret. But aside from all that. I'm going to vote 5/5 because it was a real effort on your part and you really brought something into the mix that stands on its own and is fully original. I'm giving it a rating of 9/10 though because that "secret" made me want to die and go sex a buffalo two times. In that order. That was a big no-no and I don't understand how you thought it would be a good idea to put that there, lol. Sorry if I was harsh, but ya made me sad :'(

icecreambreakfast responds:

Hey - sorry about the obscurity of the secrets. The secrets aren't hints (although they give hints) - they're keys. Basically, once you buy the secret, you've unlocked the doorway to the hidden super hard bosses - but then you have to track down where that door is (hence the hint). The door to the bosses will be marked by a giant glowing green flash, which you'll then have to pound incredibly hard to open (so you'll have to be clever to both find the doors and to open them). Unfortunately, too, the secret in 1-2 is particularly nasty to find (there is an unmarked orange glowy thing you have to smash in the right of the tutorial area that explains floating that you have to break open to get to the empty cavern it mentions). Of all the obscure things in the game, it is probably the one I regret. Anyway, some of this explanation probably should have ended up in the game.

The game was pretty good

I didn't complete the whole game but I liked the graphics and the simple controls.
