Disappointing.
Myself being a chess fan I was looking forward to watching this movie, anticipating something great. Unfortunately the movie didn't live up to my expectations at all. The storyline just didn't seem best suited for chess. While the role of the pawn, king and queen worked, I don't feel the role of the princess did due to the fact that there is no princess in a game of chess. You could argue that the king and queen have a daughter at home, who of course wouldn't be taken to battle, but you blew this when you used her on the board.
I also felt that instead of the knight going absolutely crazy around the board making illegal moves, he could have made legitimate moves and still ended up being the most valuable piece on the team.
There were various pieces to this movie that I really liked, such as the knight falling off the table and turning into a pawn. I'm assuming the meaning to this was that when he picked up such a serious injury he could no longer be such a significant force in battle and now is as insignificant as a pawn. I also liked the pawn falling in love with a piece on the black team at the end. I'm assuming this was supposed to be another princess piece though and not a queen. Without a sense of scale it was impossible to tell the difference between the two. You should really have made there be something clearly visually different between the two pieces.
Don't get me wrong, this was definitely a nicely done flash movie with a good enough storyline. The only problem was that you chose to use chess pieces to tell the story. The same flash but using different things playing the roles of the characters would be a massive improvement in my eyes.
