Reviews for "Knightfall"

A Really Good Concept...

There were some frustrating aspects about the game, like when you get pigeon-holed into taking gradual damage over the course of the maps, then wind up in a situation where you have 5 HP left and the key is literally surrounded by Mandrakes (after the 20th attempt at taking no damage in this sort of scenario, one develops a sour disposition toward the game itself).

I also feel that there should be an undo or reset function of some kind in the game that allows you to make a few mistakes (maybe give someone 5 undo's the entire game or something). Hell, I'd make that into an item, as there's no sense in giving it for free.

I also had a few minor nags with some of the enemy attacks. A few times I wound up in a situation where I could be hit by enemies with indefinite range (Beholders, mostly) right off the bat and had no alternative but to flip the board to try and get out of its path, but would get hit in doing so. This, coupled with the annoyance that I discussed above about the game dwindling my health down can make for a series of needless deaths. It didn't affect my experience too much, but perhaps the random generation function could be altered so that an enemy can't attack within a certain number of turns, or maybe make it so the map can't generate a combat situation right off the bat.

I also felt the armor didn't scale very well with the damage. After getting hit for 8 - 10 damage a pop, I go and purchase the armor. However, the next stage has enemies that begin hitting me for 8 - 10 damage as well, with some hitting for even more than the previous stage's enemies after the armor upgrade. Makes the armor feel less like an upgrade and more of a tourniquet.

Again I love the game and the concept. These are just some minor gripes I had with it.

Perhaps for the sequel, you could incorporate movement upgrades or different weapons that allow a variety of attack paths. Just a thought.

Thanks for the great game!

very good but sometimes annoyin

sometimes it was really annoying, cuz i rotated it the wrong way, and then some minataur killed me, but i was right next to the door

Good

Very fun, I played up to the devil but there was no way i could beat him. I only had one health potion, so maybe if you could access the store in the middle of a level that would be great. I hit him four times and just couldnt get off the fifth hit. What ever happend to the ol' nintendo three shot?

Random and interesting

Effective tweaking of a basic puzzler...why do some people seem to resent random factors in games so much?

Beautiful enchanting game!

I started this game when it first came out around march of last year, got a decent ways into the mines, stopped playing. Got back into it recently, about a week ago, and I beat story mode tonight, it was a fun journey, I can't wait to see what part 2 is like, hopefully its way better and I hope it has the same great sound effects and music.

In my review posts, starting with this one, I'm going to start keeping a record of achievements and highscores I achieve playing games.

My achievements for this game, beating the story mode once so far:

1. Difficulty? Nay!
2. Nowhere near rock bottom.
3. Superboring
4. Rainbows over Camelot
5. Deadly Gentry
6. Honour Amongst Thieves

Pretty standard I guess, but atleast I got them, but I'm planning to go through and get more.

Highscores List, Story Quest Roll of Honour:

3rd place bronze for the Daily and Weekly high score lists with a score of 66051, hey bronze is pretty good right? Theres alot of positions I beat. I plan on getting on the score list with purgatory too, but that won't be recorded in this.

Now for the review:

The game was great, you definetely thought outside the box with this one, its not your everyday puzzler, its creative and very fun, besides just trying to solve a puzzle, your trying to solve how to escape a part of a dungeon and move on to the deeper parts of the dungeon, and fighting monsters along the way and killing them, depending on how you do the puzzle, they either get you or you get them, I loved every minute of playing this.

The monsters were unique as well, I loved all of the haunting screams and noises the monsters made, and it was also very unique how they attacked you, depending where you were at compared to them, its just very well planned out and designed, its been on my favorites list for awhile.

I loved the standard rescue the princess theme, it never gets old, especially brought into a unique game such as this, the music and atmosphere was just incredibly amazing, haunting and enchanting, I hope this quality isn't lost in part 2 which I'm about to play.

The gameplay mechanics were great too, it was fun and challenging to figure out how to get to the door, avoid monsters if you were low on health, trying to find the key, drill certain paths to avoid dangerous obstacles, stop and take a breath trying to figure out if going a certain way was going to hurt you, pending on the monsters unique attack style and range, and pressure points where you were at a check mate, trying to figure out a path to choose, to which monster hurts you less and just run in and get smacked by it, so exhilerating.

The only problem with this game however, in my opinion, is that some items were ridiculously overpriced, like the armor, the price made some armors not even worth the hassle, I completed the whole game with the purple set, the gold set would have been nice though, I just used the rest of my money to buy elixirs, food, damage spells and skeleton keys for the end levels, and devil boss battle. And one more thing, towards the last few levels, like the dungeon and hell, the gold bullion stacks you randomly came across, for extra money were just all mimic monsters that I came across. Every one I ran into trying to get extra gold was a mimic monster, it would have been nice if you still had a good chance to get the gold as actual money like the early levels and not as a monster, because the gold stacks you can pick up in levels are extremely rare anyhow.

But despite the drawbacks, it hardly tarnishes this great game, make more like this in the future!
