Reviews for "Pixtropolis City"

Well...

It is clear that a lot of effort was put into this but there were aspects that just seemed to clash with the overall style and break the pattern of the overall flash. The basic idea here (from what I can tell) is that the whole city is in pixel form, however there were certain parts where it just seemed more like the flash was drawn and just left at a low resolution, instead of each pixel being placed where it should be.

Basically, it seems like parts of this were rushed.

HOWEVER!: There were some aspects that actually managed to convey a sort of meaning despite their brevity. For example the one where the guy is walking and seems to be depressed. When all of a sudden it turns to night, everyone else becomes depressed and he kills himself. This really seems to get at an interesting point of how depression effects more people than the initial victim. So to whomever made that, job well done! Having said that, this was one of the flashes where it felt like they were looking for a style. Meaning it looked like a hybrid of regular animation techniques and the pixel theme, it didn't really work for me.

It's an above average film, but not by that much.

Alright.

Too scattered. Not that it was bad, the music was great, but nothing really meshes together. Try to make things a bit more connected next time. Good luck!

Unfortunate Loss

I must say I feel I have been kind in my rating. Personally I am a great supporter of Precise Pixel Drawing, or Pixel Art as most call it. Personally I felt let down by this animation. The authors of the flash seem to just do scribbles in paint, paste them into flash and fiddle with them.

This doesn't really constitute Pixel 'Art' in my opinion. This seemed more of an excuse to use pixel drawings in flash to relate the style of the 16-bit music. If were to have entered this contest I personally would have using a program like Paint.NET for all the drawings and frames of animation. Rather than using a single drawing and using flashes tools to modify the images (that even includes rotation). Because in my eyes this is sort of cheating what the style represents.

Anyway, this is just my personal opinion. I understand that time constraints, filesize constraints etc, etc all contribute to using 'work around' techniques to minimize the impact on constraints.

Though is does not make me feel cheated any less.

Not my kind of stuff

I don't really liked this thing but tom fulp does he loves pixel related stuff

Great attempt, but...

The animated segments didn't go with the song at all.

There were about two segments that involved committing suicide by jumping off a roof and another with the guy being super depressed and shooting himself. Those don't fit well into a song that has a somewhat positive and cheery mood to it.

I don't think any of the animations were bad at all, I just think you and your crew could have choreographed a much better suited animation to this song.

But all in all, it was acceptable.
