Reviews for "Super Mafia Land"

Ok but..

Good graphic but a little too buggy

Cute.

A very nice little remake on a childhood game that most of us would have played at one point or another in our lives.

The gameplay was decent, quite smooth, it lagged slightly throughout parts and made it unplayable, cleaning that up would be nice, artwork was thrilling, wasn't too mad about it, however it's inspired by SMB2, and should resemble something similar to that, and you perfected it, well done.

However, I had a few problems with the "Mafia" part, there seemed to be nothing in the game related to the mafia, besides that Mario, Luigi and Peach resembled mafia figures. I would've rated this higher if you included more mafia crap in there, perhaps guns, a don; something on the lines of that.

not too bad, a few things needed cleaning up as I've stated, but overall well polished submission.

Decent, not too flashy

A decent take on ''Super Mario Bros. 2'' however i felt there were a few issues in the gameplay. To start, i'm going to agree with DragonchildZ's point. I don't see how this has anything to do with the mafia apart from costumed characters who are supposed to resemble Mario, Bowser and Peach. I was expecting walking into a street, jumping over cars, or suburban obstacles, and flattening midget mafia-men of some sort. But instead was a replica of Super mario bros. 2. Playing this felt slow, clunky, and packed. It was very slow using the first character, but using Maria, things picked up in pace.

At the first stage, one of my problems was holding down for ''3 seconds'' to perform a super jump, which actually took 6 - 7 seconds, and the jump wasn't even really needed with the first character, because his main asset was to jump high. I didn't play the game long due to slowness and clunkyness, i got up to the 2nd cave in level 1, just by the ladybug that scaled the vine.

What more can i say? It felt Slow, clunky, and irrelevant to an actual mafia-setting, which ripped off mario bros. 2's levels too much. You were creative enough to make fictional characters.. Why not make fictional levels?

To Slow

It was ok but it ran to slow and not enough mafia references. maybe a gun or something to make it more interesting

I agree about the mafia theme

Its too much like Mario 2 including the same problems that Mario 2 had. For example, why does every nintendo game give you 2-3 health hits? Its fairly easy to die and start over in all the old nintendo games. Secondly, I hate having to repeat levels at the beginning when you die. You work your ass off to accomplish certain obstacle.. you get near the end.. you die.. you start at the beginning. Argh! Those are problems you brought with you in this game during your mimic. There could be a health bar to how many times you can get hit before going small, this is what I hated about Mario 2. Btw.. you don't have any hearts, stars, power up features at all, mushrooms, etc at all.

Now, on to the game problems. The game is too laggy and slow. I've been able to play other graphic intensive games no problem. The fight with birdo for example, it was harder to pick up the egg than in mario 2! Mario 2 is far better than this game because it has many minor considerations asking themselves "if we implement this.. will the user be frustrated with the game play or the challenge presented." For example, the ladybug climbing the vine, it goes all the way up, and you'd have to wait until it comes down since the vine is so long. Mario 2 doesnt have that problem. The mask after getting the key, goes off the screen, in your game.. it disappears and reappears in the same location making it really hard. The characters are very slow moving, you should give another button for running rather than using the same button to pick up and throw enemies and vegetable.

In the second level I got like 40 fruits and veggies for the treasure box thing. Now, even though it helps me out in the long run getting lives.. it seriously took me like 5 mins to finally get through all of it for the extra lives. It got boring really fast. I couldn't stand going up the higher levels cause I don't want to feel like I'm wasting my time since I dont trust that you made the level proportionatily hard compared to the previous levels. It went from frustratingly easy->frustratingly hard->frustratingly boring->frustratingly impossible. I ended the game with like 25 lives on the flying bird level. There is no way I want to continue playing from start to finish in one go. You dont even have any short cuts. Miyamoto would prolly cry in shame if he played this game, but he'd prolly hire you guys after giving you a lot of advice so you can work on some future games with him.

And finally.. make it more mafia. Otherwise just call this game "Mafia stuck in Mario Land" since this is nothing like a mafia land to begin with.
