Reviews for "Overdrive"

I'm normally not into dubstep, but this is some pretty sick stuff.

I needed to review this. First comes my little step-by-step review of the tunes.
00:00: Gets right in, and it works well!
00:04: Is that guitar I hear?
00:06: It is :3
00:12 The large stutters here are great. They break up the music, and set it up for the next barrage of sound too.
00:15 My god. 15 seconds in and this was a winner.
00:18 Those tunes are brilliant. The synths work with the guitar so well, weaving in and out.
00:28 A 're-gripping' of the music. Not a stutter, but more like a period in a sentence to keep people listening. It is perfect
00:35 The synths here are amazing. You can feel the beats running through your body.
00:42 The intro of the deeper, more stereotypical dub-step notes. Meh.
01:05 A build up to something...
01:09 What's this? It sounds calm.
01:15 This is dub-step! This is our new king!
02:38 That little run up and down was nice...
02:50 Another one of those calm before the storm moments works perfectly.
03:05 Seriously, where do you come up with this? The little 'raises' really set off the song. It's beautiful.
03:28 Another run up and down works.
03:45 This high, synth part really is great, especially with the path leading down
04:00 Works our way down...
04:11 The last note...

Beginning (00:00-00:15): 5 Stars!
The reason why the beginning is so short is because it is! You don't waste time with the introduction, but you don't rush in like some artists on this. Your beginning is quick, swift, and is absolutely perfect in every way. All you need is a red ribbon to wrap it with.

Middle (00:16-03:41): 3 and a half stars!
The middle is great, as it doesn't repeat itself. If it does, it's a bit like a song, with verses. You wrote the music brilliantly, and the pattern of Synth-Beat-Dub-Beat-Synth is great. My only beef with this song is the actual dub-step you put into this. Sometimes it works, but I find that this song does not need drops. All of the kind of grisly wubs and dubs you put in there are just not fitting. Your song is fluent, and magical. Don't add something that has been added thousands of times to different songs. It really is not good. Just be yourself, I'm sure you can find something to put there.

End (03:42-End) 5 Stars!
What I like about your ending is that it is almost an exact opposite of the beginning, and yet it works. The build down in 03:42 to 03:50 Is perfect, as the synths slowly tune themselves out, which is beautifully executed. From then on, it's mostly guitar, but you can hear some little beats that compliment the guitar. And in the end, you can just hear the guitar, playing that final beat. It's perfect. It's unlike most dub-step songs. it's my new top favourite ending for a dub-step song.

My final Score: 13.5/15 Possible Points, or a 4 and a Half stars total.
This guitar really made this song what it is. Without it, you wouldn't have had the front-page. You are creative, and resourceful, and I think you need to continue going on a different path with your music. Don't add your default wubs/dubs because they sound okay. We want them to sound amazing! This music is different from the rest of the herd, so don't try to paint it like them.

P.S When someone compared you to Skrillex, I was outraged. Skrillex earns thousands/weekly, and I assume you did this with little to no help from anyone. That sets you apart from big earners: you did this without the benefit of money. That shows true skill.

aaronmusslewhite responds:

Hey wow thanks, what detailed review nice :P I appreciate it and I'm stoked you liked it so much. I'm also super happy, you guys enjoy the different stuff I'm doing with it, I was a little worried that what little bit I'm doing off the beaten path wouldn't be received well. As far as the wubs and typical dubstep stuff, I guess its just some of my influences coming through. I guess the best I can compare it to is like... palm muting, pinch harmonics in metal music. Yeah it's been done before but it's like part of what makes that genre. And even though I am trying to have fun with the genre, I definitely still like the wobbles and stuff, it's like my "roots" or whatever in the genre. But! I will definitely try to find ways to make them different some how so that it doesn't sound like any sounds you or others may be tired of. Thanks so much for your feed back :D. And as far as the skrillex comparison, I think its just the aggressive sound of both of our music. Skrillex started with pretty shitty equipment, reportedly, too tho. I personally haven't followed him much since scary monsters, but it's an honor for my music to even be mentioned with his because of how much he's accomplished. I hope to keep getting better. :P

Hey there, I'm making an montage for youtube and was wondering if I could use your music for part of the music that will be in the video, You will get a link to bring people to this page and full credit for the song, If thats ok with you.

aaronmusslewhite responds:

Sweet Jesus. Let me find my eyes real quick. All this wub knocked them out.
