Reviews for "Skate Something ep.1"

Well

I have to say there isn't anything here that really strikes me as being too intresting to watch, some of the animation is good and the sound effects also seem good, so does the music. The major problem is, nothing really seems to happen, it's like watching something right to the end and not really having a point to it. Add some humour, more skaters even, just have something happen.

Another thing is it seems too short, needs to be longer as well as having something happen, once you have that it will be much better. The roof or path, whatever it was could also have had more detail, the other backgrounds where pretty good though, just have something happen really.

Yeah many people said that and for that reason im going to make the next one longer and add some more skaters.

Pretty Good

Both the animation and drawings were good, but it was a little repetitive. I would try having the guy do more (different) tricks with the skateboard and add more interesting obstacles for him to jump/grind. I don't know if you want to go the violent route, but you could have it be like one of those race games where it starts with a bunch of stick dudes and some die due to various obstacles along the way until there's only one left. That would make it more interesting. :P Overall you have some talent for animating, keep it up!

thanks and im glad u liked it.

Hmmm

A bit plain, but still good.

The graphics were good. Nicely animated tricks. Would've been nice to have seen the use of an action cam, or a zoom function. That would've really made it stand out.

The sounds were good, but also just a bit monotonous.

Overall a decent submission but nothing really special to define it from other movies like this, but a good start.

yeah i know but it is my first flash andill improve with as many flashes as i make.

A little basic

There is a little of the skills that you need to provide decent flash movies here - good quality sound mixed with average quality animations. Next what you need to do is come up with a plotline and you'll be on your way toward something better.

Just showcasing a few tricks on a skateboard isn't really much of an animation. Why not come up with some sort of graphic, telling us what these moves are called? That would at least give us an education on the dynamics and terminology of skateboarding.

The length needs more of a boost as well - more tricks and perhaps a skate-off between two rivals could certainly improve the piece beyond recognition!

yes the graffics idea is awesome thanks. and its basic because its my first flash.

Good stuff

I was watching some snowboarders this afternoon. They'd set up some real snow slopes in Kelvingrove Park and I watched on - amused as they fell over, disappointed as they didn't attempt anything daring, but cheered when they busted out 720s and even somersaults!

Watching these kinds of things done for real is far more interesting to me - simply because we're amazed by the skill of the person. We never experience that with an animation. For that reason, I normally find these kind of things boring.

I liked how you used the possibilities of animation a little and had him jumping over spikes. Go for more stuff like that - why not have really unrealistic situations - maybe he's skating through a labyrinth, a rock chases him, handplanting and jumping backwards onto a lower floor... or maybe he's riding over stars or rainbows? Or maybe mix up a fighting flash with a skating animation - having folk gang up to beat him up, but he jumps over them, goes over their heads, hits them with the board...

Music was suitable and sfx were good.

The shapes were all pretty simplistic, but I liked how the guy sorta shifted his body weight as he jumped or whatever.

I liked how the board turned. But when the board spun around a vertical axis, is that something that could be really done? It kinda looked to me like he just jumped as if he were to do a kick-flip, then the board somehow magically spun like that. Maybe you could study skating vids, prhaps on slowmo, and watch how their bodies move when they do tricks.

A great first flash and you show promise, but it has a way to go yet.
