What worked and what didn't?
I think you have you have the right idea, and your heart's in the right place but it didn't come through. I have been juggling with the idea of something similar although quite different to this so i'm gonna try and give the best possible constructive criticism i can.
Pros:
1) You stepped outside the cliche for these types of games and went for something different.
2) The amount of options were use allowing for huge customization.
3) You allow people to not worry about some aspects of the game (eg. you could never touch a sports book, or never even talk to a certain girl.
4) The game allowed for both genders to play.
5) The graphics were pleasing and nice on the eye.
6) There was no goal, no time limit. I disagree that this is necessarily a bad thing unlike other reviewers but i feel it needs to be pulled off well, and just clicking buttons probably the type of game where it does work. Maybe some sort of free roaming date sim? Saying that there does need to be points of not necessarily completement but some sort of achievement.
Cons:
1) The first major con is that there's too much too soon. You get tossed into your game with no guide and with all the options of the game at your disposal. To most players this is daunting. The question what do i do? comes to mind. I know you want people to not have this 'keycode' but i mean sometimes it was just plain frustrating. I agree repeatedly click the button games suck but this leads me into my second point.
2) repeatedly click the button games suck. I understand you tried to overcome this by not telling people what does what, but click random buttons to see their effect is not enjoyable and i feel this strategy will never be that effective no matter how well implemented. I mean the whole building up stats then asking girls out formula is dated and im suprised there is so little variation from this. IMO stat building should be removed from these games entirely and replaced by something else. The main aim of stat building is obviously that it gives your character some sort of definition but i believe with careful design this can be overcome.
3) The whole time system was nothing but irritating. School was just another stat point source and there was no definition between day and night. Place times were irritating and involved a lot of napping in order to work out.
4) Some things just didnt make sense. Why did some girls suddenly know you when you became good at a certain aspect? Why did a girl fall in true love with me even when she was angry with me, and when she was angry with me why did she act normal when she spoke to me?
5) There was little reaction from the girls when you gave them gifts or like did anything. It was hard to tell if they liked something or what.
Things you could look to improve in a possible sequel:
1) Account for all sexualities, allow girls to date girls and guys to date guys. This isn't a personal preference but it's something thats really easy to implement, and it pays off in terms of broadening the audience.
2) Maybe add more dialogue between you and members of the opposite sex.
3) Possibly make a prettier looking mall
4) Add more ways to interact with the girls.
I hope this review will be somewhat useful. The game is good and i encourage this progression, but any sequel should be thought through thoroughly. Overall very good and very innovative but flaws somewhat evident. Keep up the good work and i hope to see a sequel of some sort.
