the updated ng screen blocked some of the screen but thets not the makers fault...
what is the makers fault is the missing soliders and other stuff...
and when u go the makers site the game is also sub pared...

I liked it

It was pretty good, shame about the Kongregate things but still a real good game, shame you couldnt sell the mages or warriors you hired though.

annoying Kongregate krippleware

I cannot give this game a higher ranking in good conscience, because Kongregate has contrived to hide the best form of the game. Not only has the developer presented here a crippled version of the game which directs us to the Kongregate site, but Kongregate version of the game is marred by flaws, flaws I cannot tolerate to enjoy the game. Presumably because of Kongregate's licensing agreement, the Internet now has two subpar versions of a game that could be great. This makes me sad, and peeved. Allow me to explain.

This crippled version of the game blocks two of four advanced unit classes, but also blocks redistribution of skill points. This significantly impairs strategic choices by eliminating the potential to experiment with skills or specializing skills to solve difficult stages. I dislike this practice of releasing crippled forms of a game to promote websites, but I'd feel more charitable if visiting Kongregate provided a more ideal form of the game.

Unfortunately, the Kongregate version of the game has a bug. From playing here on NG, I learned to study the information given on upcoming waves, but this feature is broken in the Kongregate version. After clicking on one wave-square, the entire bar is frozen and will not respond to new clicks. If the developer hadn't split the codebase of the game, then he'd only have had to debug one version.

Besides that bug, the Kongregate version of Protector is played within a flash envelope of Kongregate's design, which simultaneously squashes the game's dimensions and adds an unappealing & undesired chat panel on the side. Yuck.

Otherwise the game is fun & appealing. (8/10) If it weren't for the problems I've described, I'd be playing it still. But I dislike aggressive policies almost as much as I hate decent, marred software. If I were the developer, I'd think seriously about finding a less coercive publishing agreement for future projects.
