Reviews for "Dead Frontier: Night One"

its very good but

i kept runing out of ammo i would put a few more ammo drops

Looks great, plays great.

I prefer games that have more progression, but as an action-based shoot-em-up, this is great- the graphics in particular were incredible.
As for realism... video games don't need to be realistic. If you can suspend disbelief enough to accept that you're guiding a mushroom-eating plumber through monster infested magical green pipes, you can trust that any inaccuracies in reload times were done for the benefit of gameplay.

Decent, but could be better

I liked the premise of this game, and it is clear that you worked very hard on it. I enjoyed it as well. However, I noticed a few glaring problems/errors.

The icon for the Steyr TMP is incorrect. The picture shows an MP5, not a TMP. You got the icons for the other weapons correct, nonetheless. In addition, as many other people have stated, the reload times are unreasonably long. Only for the Mossberg 500 would such a time be acceptable, as one must insert each shell. For the Glock 19c and the Steyr TMP, there is really no way a trained professional, or anyone who has ever seen a gun before, for the matter, could take that long to reload. I understand that you wanted to add some tension and difficulty to the game, but there are other ways to do so (e.g. give the player a very limited amount of magazines, forcing him to make each shot count.) You could also have the player be forced to refill a set number of mags with rounds from a general ammo pile (e.g. you get 5 20-round pistol mags, and you can buy ammo in reserve, but you have to drag-and-drop the mag icons unto the ammo pile for them to be filled by a helper when they are empty). Of course, this is purely a suggestion, and I am sure you can think of something better.

The character's movement speed is also a bit too slow. If there was some sort of explanation for this (that he is wounded or injured, etc.) then I am sure that it would be better accepted. Finally, some melee weapons would be a nice addition for the times when you are caught with all your mags dry. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate; just a combat knife, blunt object, or any other implement that does not push one's sense of disbelief too far would be good... unless you decide to include some easter eggs, which would be quite nice.

Overall, I think that you did an excellent job on this, and I hope that you'll take some of these things into account in the sequel. I am looking forward to playing it.

Nicely done with just a few weaknesses

I actually kinda liked the change of scenario. All the time just being outside and/or behind a barricade is rather boring.
Being in a House brings a nice claustrophobic feeling with it,although in my opinion the house still was just a bit too small, you could neither explore it nor had you really options to go anywhere. It would have been nice to have at least one area without a spawnpoint nearby where you could find momentary rest. But still, I liked how one is forced to stay moving.
Now just a few things that also bothered me:

-The kitchen entrance seems to be a bit bugged, sometimes I just couldn't enter
- The Pistol and MP need too long to reload. Later on they mainly serve as a backup weapon when the Shotgun runs out of ammo, but you never have time to reload them. A soldier would probably only take 2 seconds at most to change a clip.
-In some cases, the blood covered the level architecture, e.g. the sofa (or whatever that was in the south of the living room)
-The small, reddish zombies tend to come a bit too close to you,so that your weapons muzzle already is behind them. Usually you still can hit them then, but it looks a bit weird.
-As aforementioned, I would have liked to be able to reload the shottie bullet by bullet, but I can understand that that is rather hard to do.

Well, this sounds a bit too critical, so here what you did well:

-Graphics(very nicely done)
-Sounds(nice and quite zombie-ish)
-Different kinds of enemies(I was really startled by this zombie with the stomping sound)
-The ability to switch weapons while reloading(can't tell anymore how often this killed me in other games)

So all in all you did a very good job with only minor weaknesses. I will definitely watch this series in the future.

JaggedBladeSoftware responds:

"A soldier would probably only take 2 seconds at most to change a clip."

Reload time for those weapons is exactly 2 seconds.

ah crap!

Crap! A zombie got me while I was reloading my GODDAMN SHOTGUN!!!1111
A shot gun is useful against zombies cause you can quickly load and fire off a shot if a zombie is in your face!!!1 Why won't you people get it right!?!?!? Gah!!!!
