Reviews for "Monster Master"

fun for a while

it was ok... but it reminded me of yu-gi-oh. it was fun for 2 or three games, but then you srat to realize whats in the deck and it gets boring. have a couple more cards, and when a monster attacks, the loser should automaticaly die

Good way to kill a few minutes if you're bored.

Monster Master is a card game in the style of Magic: the Gathering and its many rip-offs like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. You bring monsters onto the board whose purpose is to clear the opponent's side and then 'kill' the player's life-points.

Unfortunately, this game adds very few real innovations. Random numbers for combat are a new touch that would not work well in a table-top game. This does however increase the luck factor by a lot. Previous posters have argued the random generator favours the computer; I doubt that's the case, but when chance is involved, people often think they are being disadvantaged if they don't get lucky as much as they'd like to. With randomly dealt cards and very random creature combat skill is not very important in this game. Besides that, removal cards (cards that let you remove creatures at will) are very powerful in this set and since they allow you to avoid the combat system all together, they add tons of reliability to the deck. This format makes the only truly interesting feature of the game--the Combination card that lets you turn certain creatures in your hand or in play into bigger monsters--quite worthless as your opponent is very likely to throw a dreaded Black Hole onto your Ninja Rats and Dragon Riders.

While the concept is quite interesting and fairly new to Newgrounds, the game requires several revisions to make it more exciting to play. My advice to the author; reduce the randomness and fix some of the broken cards. For example; make Fireball deal 1 damage to you for 3 damage to a creature to make Lightning Bolt interesting, or add a creature that can be sacrificed during your opponent's turn to counter a non-creature spell the opponent just played...

Quite addictive

simple drawings and gameplay compared to other games. Easy to play, I Like IT!

HEHE

I played this game on other site and its good like Yugi-Oh style.

It's alright

I like the concept and it's quite well done, but the random number just plays too big of a part. For example, I had a dragon that had boosted it's attack up to 12. I attacked a small monster (can't ever remember the name) that had a defense of 4. My dragon got killed by attacking, because it rolled a one. What's the point in even having different stats if it's all rolled randomly anyway?
