Overall, this game is not really bad, and it does have a lot of potential, however, in its current form, it is rough, unwieldy, and for the most part, unenjoyable.
First of all, the controls seem more like I am making a suggestion for the character to move, which then has to be sent through Congress, a subcomittee, where it is forgotten about, then revived only after about 6 dozen hippies hold a protest on capital hill. After all of this, finally, my archer sees fit to shoot an arrow, missing, causing me to start the process all over again. I would make the main character much more agile and much more responsive, as it stands, everything seems sluggish.
On a similar note of controls, the bow had far to slow of a rate of fire. When the foot soldiers wield sticks of death that suck the life out of you, such a slow rate of fire makes the entire game pointlessly annoying. Just one missed shot can mean death. I have already seen several suggestions for bow upgrades, which I can only echo and underscore here. Poison, magic, sharper arrows, longer arrows, anything would be nice.
I suppose after tearing your guts out, I should take some time to note what you did right. The overall idea of the game is good, I like the idea of being a freedom-fighting, bow-wielding badass. The level construction was good, and the regeneration between levels was a good idea. The storyline, though minimalistic, justified the violence, and that is all I ask of game storylines.
Although this game is overall rough in make, it has the potential to be great. All that is needed is a few minor tweaks of the game mechanics, and then, perhaps in a sequel, additions of such things as advanced bows and arrows.
