Reviews for "Nocturnal Letters (sized)"

kickass!

i thought the game was wonderful! you sound like a really cool person, too. (i read all of the creators notes as well). i thought the plot was interesting and my lady enjoyed it too! please make more if possible!
actually, i live in japan and we have many interesting legends here which i thought was interesting for a game's plot, if you want some idea for in future i would love to help whatever way i can. i liked to scroll over things and be alerted to them, so i liked that part.

the fuzziness of pictures made it hard for me to see sometimes though, and so i would have preferred the different one of that :) thanks for great job overall.

Ms-Bowser responds:

Wow! Thank you! :) I wanted to make it very personal, that's why I added the creator's notes..
Japan is cool! My boyfriend is actually Japanese ^_^
Yeah, I'll let you know if I need any ideas in the future, 'cause anyone who likes my game must have good taste, hehe ;)

Who Needs Cheap Scares When You Have Plot?

Heh... I was so impressed that I created a NG account just so I could review this.

I've played a few point of click games... ExMortis, The House, etc... I think this is my favourite! I got a little lost once or twice, but this is perfect for the persistant gamer. Challenging, atmospheric and certainly plot driven!

Yeah, my favourite part of this was the amazing story. I found myself feeling great sympathy for the characters, feeling Ivy's fear and confusion.

Also, the sound effects in her room near the end freaked me out something rotten!

Persue your goal of being a game designer... as far as I can tell from this, only good can come of it.

Ms-Bowser responds:

Thank you :D I think this is the best one, too (on NG,that is) XD Yes, I wanted my game to tell a story.. That's the sort of games I wanna make.

quite entertaining

the story was excellent.
i was really able to envelop myself in the character.

just wish the picture quality was better.
nevertheless i thought it was the perfect difficulty without being overly honest.
:]

Ms-Bowser responds:

Weeeii, thank you! :)

Yeah, most of the graphics are crap..
But story is always number one priority ;)

Great game!

I loved it! It was scary, but not the regular blood and gore (As you mentioned in your notes! :P) that you see in a lot of point and click games. The only thing was the graphics... I don't know if this was the look you were going for, but a lot of the times it was too dark to see anything. (Took me forever to find the flashlight)

I hope you do make more! I'm sure you could come up with a lot of different ideas, if not a sequel (Which there is no way you could screw it up!) Keep up the good work!

Ms-Bowser responds:

Thanks a lot! :)
Well, I had a lot of trouble with the graphics..

Well, I will definately make more stuff.. I'm not sure what though
I have so many things i wanna do.. I'll let you know! ^^

More atmospheric than most flash horror dreams

My brother recently introduced me to a series of mildly humorous youtube commentaries, one of which introduced me to Nocturnal Letters. I'm sure a lot of people have come through after seeing it played with people talking over the story, simply downvoting because they can, so let me say my piece.

Nocturnal Letters is scary.

Really scary. And not in a way that needs to jump out and grab you by the throat, but a way that quietly plants itself in the back of your mind. There are no monsters, no enemies - just you, your family, a house - and a plot that revolves around the devolution of normalcy into something frighteningly implausible - but just possible enough to leave a mark.

Maybe it's just me, but the things that frighten me most are the things that seem possible - can be possible. Several of the scenes in Nocturnal Letters prey off these fears; fears of lingering madness, of mistaking one thing for another, of an otherwise normal scene unfolding in a surreal and dreamlike manner. I do not wish to spoil it for those who haven't played, but to experience Nocturnal Letters on your own will leave you with serious thoughts about your own ability to perceive reality. Just too bad it doesn't have a sequel. :)

The only reason I can't give this a ten is that it isn't for everyone; there are people who will go in with their perceptions already decided for them by others, and there are people who won't think about the things they experience; you might enjoy Condemned or F.E.A.R more than this. For those who enjoy classic Resident Evil and SH, or Amiga/PC horror point and clicks - I think you'll find this an easy ten. Please give it a try, and don't let others decide your opinion for you. Just do me a favor - don't play it alone at night -

;)

Ms-Bowser responds:

Thank you very much for this sincere and clever review! :)
The way you describe it..it's exactly the way I wanted it to be, what I wanted to accomplish with it.
Maybe you understand me really well..? ^__^
