Goes without saying

That this song clearly has parts that remind nearly everyone of 'Lux Aeterna' (Req 4 a dream), particularly the low string background and the melody from 1:57 to 2:36. While this isn't a bad thing, because Lux Aeterna is a great song, but I personally think more could have been done to prevent so much similarity between the two songs.

However, it would be unfair to this song to call it a copy because there were parts in it that sounded plenty different from Lux Aet. and even with a similar melody, the songs have a completely different feel.

The drums gave a much more biting feel to the song, compared to a melodramatic feel in Lux Aet, and had a much more profound in-your-face mood. As far as the listed goal for the song, I felt it was a success in that both songs (Minutes to Midnight and this one) had a strong percussion, epic cinematic feel, and a progressive layout. (I felt like I was classifying this song for pandora.com right there :D)

A few things I would have liked to see in this song
-The bell used at the end of M2M, I think that would have made a really cool addition
-More variety in the backgrounds.
-More stuff to comment on (haha, jk, its just that its been at least 3 hours since I started this review)

All in all, I thought the song was repetitive, but worth listening to

Thanks for reviewing man, your reviews are among my favourite that I've ever received.

I don't know what was in my friend's mind when he made this, maybe it was purposefully to make it sound like Requiem for a Dream, maybe inspiration or maybe it just happened to sound like Requiem for a Dream. Well, at least it morphs into something totally different afterwards :D.

"However, it would be unfair to this song to call it a copy because there were parts in it that sounded plenty different from Lux Aet. and even with a similar melody, the songs have a completely different feel."

Yeah that's what I think as well. Thanks.

Lol, thanks xD. Also I really appreciate that you even went to check out Minutes to Midnight too, you're awesome :D.

We definitely tried to give them a similar style.

"A few things I would have liked to see in this song"

OK...

"-The bell used at the end of M2M, I think that would have made a really cool addition"

You know that's actually a very good idea.

"-More variety in the backgrounds."

Again, you're right about this. I'll definitely tell Darklight17 to work on it.

Wow O.o.

Thanks a LOT for the amazing review, you never cease to impress.

Great stuff

Well, what a way to come back to the Audio scene.

I think that the contrasting sounds of the glockenspiel and the strings on the intro are brilliant and I'm straining my ears to hear if you carried these on when the more dramatic music comes in and takes over.

To be honest, I'd say that you're looking at Ambient as the genre for this music, since it's something that can very easily be adapted to a great many themes, just as backing for silent flash, since a lot of people do go and make dramatic flash suited to this sort of music.

I think that with the percussion coming in, it does tend to dominate the track a little and perhaps the balance is slightly out there, considering how the strings have come across as dominant early on, so perhaps the drums and cymbals need to be toned down a little, just to add some balance to the track in all.

Cool :3.

Personally I can't be sure, since Darklight took care of all this stuff, and I'm deaf from one ear so I can't tell, but glad you like the intro. That's actually a xylophone though :D.

Hm, an interesting point of view. We were first contemplating on whether to put it in Classical or in Miscellaneous. Classical because it incorporates strings and brass, including a few other orchestral influences, but Miscellaneous because of the rock drums, although Ambient isn't such a bad idea.

Haha, yeah, you're entirely correct. I'm thinking of EQing all of the drums, probably by then the balance between percussion and strings will work out a little better.

Thanks for reviewing, and sorry for the late response.

I thought it was great

This is the type of stuff that reminds me of sneaky movies

-Audio-
Well what I really like is how it starts adding a little and little more pump to the music.Such as this tapping sound and slight music to a violin and then drums. Also after a while the sound started to get more dark and I liked that cause at the beginning its calm. The middle is all dark and loud it starts to get calm again and then all action like music and then calm.So this kinda stuff if I had flash I would use your audio.

-Improvements-
I liked it but it just takes a little while to get in to the song so it bores you a little at the end

Im glad I listened to the whole thing cause if I would of just listened to the beginning It would of been a 6 but the rest was good so 9

Question:What was the instrument playing at the beginning with the tapping noise.I remember the name of the instrument it is on the tip of my tongue

Heh, thanks. It actually might fit rather well in a spy-ish movie, but then again, as Coop83 said, it can be used in a great many themes, so you can never be sure.

Cool :D. We made it like that since the calm parts can provide a break from all the action, and then when we build up to the action, it'll sound more epic and mighty.

"I liked it but it just takes a little while to get in to the song so it bores you a little at the end"

Hm, I agree that it does take a while to actually start (it actually starts the action halfway through the song :P) but we tried to give a gradual intro. Maybe we could have given it a few more interesting elements at the beginning.

That's a xylophone :P.

Thanks for the great review!
