Reviews for "Fish That Should Not Be"

lousy

I have been playing this game for the past 4 hours. Good god, this sucks. Why did I keep playing it? The guy in the bar always says something like "now just one more thing" and then when I get the one more thing it turns out I need "just one more thing" again, so a game that looked like half an hour turns into a lot longer, always looking like I'm almost done. I'm at the "just one more thing" where I have to catch a 12 pound pike to get a map. Catching fish in this game is the most boring, repetitive activity in the world. You've cured me of any desire to engage in real life fishing. Some of the more fantastic blunders in gameplay:

--how LONG it takes you to catch a fish. You can sit there casting in the right place for 10 minutes using the best specialty lure and best bait and not get anything.

--on the bigger fish, how random it is whether you actually catch it or not. What is that shit where there is no tension in the line yet your reel handle spins and the fish swims away but you can't touch the reel? It takes all skill out of the game because there is nothing you can do against it--you just have to wait for it to stop spinning, or more likely, for the line to snap. Not only is it the most irritating, stupid thing, but it doesn't even make any sense. It's totally unrealistic. If there's no tension in the line, it would be easy to grab hold of the reel handle.

--In general on that, my character has strength 10 and dexterity 10 and this game is saying that fighting a 12 pound fish is a major struggle. Come on. It's 12 pounds!!! I can easily throw that with 1 hand. We're not talking deep sea fishing here, we're talking about something roughly the size of a cat.

Did you spend as much time designing this game as it takes to play it?

PaavoPaavonen responds:

guess you cant please everybody...

The game is not trying to be a fishing simulator, so don't take those weights too seriously... and the reel acts like the reels in the 50's. Back then there was no fancy modern reels which could give the line when the fish fights back, tou know what i mean.

I think the biggest fishes (12-20 lbs) are little too hard to catch, thats because my latest patch which i didnt test enough...

Well, atleast you figured out how to play it :P

no blizzard my mouse is pretty fine. pretty fine indeed
