Very Impressive.
Very good game, I got four different endings and enjoyed doing so.
Graphics: Simple but appropriate. The fuzzy portraits were annoying, though. The combat graphics were nice, but could use some improvement.
Style: Vaguely reminded me of Malapa's Challenge at times. My suggestions for the improvement of the attacks follows.
Mind Blast: Make the beam wider as the skill level rises.
Mind Shield: Make the glow around the character wider and brighter at the skill level increases.
Pyro Blast: Make the fireball and the explosion tiny initially, but at level 10 or so it should take up something like a quarter of the screen.
Feedback: The number of orbs should equal the skill level, up to a maximum of ten.
After a certain skill level, perhaps ten, you should allow people to buy the higher level books. It would be cool if the new books changed the attack visually.
Also, add more skills. And if you want to go with the money-as-exp bit, you should play GreenCastle: DoubleExodus for some ideas.
Sound: Goes quite well with the game, not much to be improved here.
Violence: No blood, no problem. I like the simplicity.
Interactivity: Mostly ok, but with one glaring exception: The running system. Instead of making people use both the arrow keys and WASD to run, just make them use one of the two plus shift.
Humor: Not really applicable, but I liked the drunken guard and the excessive bureaucracy.
Overall: Very nice game. If you continue to improve it through the chapters, you may very well be able to top Malapa's Challenge. Given that it didn't take you that long to finish the actual game (as opposed to the the total time including the time spent learning the programming), I think you might be able to do so within a year.
I eagerly await the next chapter of what should be an epic RPG.
