Reviews for "The Promise of Home"

Lousy

I'm sorry, but you simply must learn better English. Some of those sentences were so awkwardly composed that they made me feel physically uncomfortable. Read some English novels, or else write in your own native tongue (I hope to God English isn't your primary language)

very touching

i almost cried at the end watching this movie. suffering is everywhere in the world, i am glad that i am living in such a good environment with soo many luxuries...

almost every flash has violent of sexual content now... we need people like you in the world...
people, please be patient with this movie and pay attention... then u might find this movie meaningful.

I liked it

Did you happen to see the movie 'grave of the fireflies? if you didnt I think you should watch it, its an anime movie and your movie made me think about it, really tragic story too, even more tragic than this one. :p

anyway, good movie I liked your drawing style and the song. I would just like to see the text a bit larger, Im a bad reader. :P
Keep up the good work! :D

Decent

It was... unapologetically long. I think I stopped paying attention once they got off the boat. And why the smiling faces while the were crying? I mean, I can forgive the grammatical errors, even though they were distracting, but the smiling faces just really ruined it for me.

it was still a pretty peice.

..

First for those of you who know little about China: When they're escaping on the boat it's not heading out to sea, it's going along a river. That's why there's a rower. This is also a WWII setting so those are japs bombing the cities. For people who don't have WWII veterans or WWII survivors in their family it might be a bit hard to relate.

For the actual animation I have to agree with previous reviewers that it's a bit "off". Perpetual smiles while crying is not the way to go. They look like tears of joy while the text clearly contradicts it. I also recommend getting chinese voice actors (for a foreign film effect) or at least some voice actors so the reading's not as boring. I don't mind subtitles but without any voices at all it just feels like rolling text :P. The music could also be varied a bit, by adding a 2nd or 3rd song for the more dramatic or sad moments in the story could make this much better. The actual animation is alright since it's supposed to feel like a storybook but you need work on faces. Conveying emotion in emotional stories is key, it's much more important that background and settings (which I see a great amount of detail in).
