Good job, you've made a pretty solid game.
This game is fun and well put together, but it's not really something I'd like to come back to and play many times. There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, it's incredibly tedious to have to hit each pillar 18 times each in order for it to break. I realise the whole point of this game is that it's a time trial, but I think you could have safely cut that number down a bit, or made the fireballs repeat more quickly. Secondly, the Mario style jump-on-platforms, collect-coins game play can be amusing, but it's not wildly exciting or innovative.
Graphics-wise, this looked quite good. While the style and backgrounds were simple, everything was colourful and well drawn. The main character's design reminded me a bit of Alien Hominid. :)
The looped music was fine, nothing really catchy or melodic, but it had a nice, trance-like feel and it didn't get annoying, which is a big plus. The sound effects were fine too. They seemed to be a bit laggy at times, but that may have just been my computer.
In addition to what I mentioned up top, I have a few more thoughts about this game's interactivity. The simple control scheme was easy to learn and worked well, and the character movements weren’t too slow or awkward to control. I didn’t find too many uses for the shield though, so it might have been nice to have another kind of offensive move instead, or perhaps some sort of time-based healing move. Just a thought.
I’m gonna shut up now, because this wound up being a ridiculously long (and critical) review. Overall, I liked this, and it probably deserves a spot on the frontpage. I hope you keep up the good work.
