Reviews for "Bullet Bill"

good

Tim White puts himself out to pasture.

PERFECT for retro-gamers! Everyone else, go home..

Congratulation, this submission forced me to finally log in to write a review after many idle months. I've gotta say, well done! The pacing was *perfect*, and the level design in the second world is wonderfully devious (trails of brick leading into a wall... subversion of expectations... you really understand gamer psychology!)

This made me think back to the days of 'Battle Toads' on the NES... there were several segments of gameplay that utilized this exact mechanic. Here, you've taken a classic concept and presented it in a fresh new manner.

I DO have two complaints about the game, so I figure I'll get them out of the way now. First of all, there's no pause button. I wanted to take a break from playing but hadn't caught the password, so rather than lose my progress I had to leave the game running with my speakers off as thousands of 'bills raced to their deaths. If you wanted to avoid abuse of a pause feature (I'm sure someone would try the old 'slowmo' technique of pause-unpause-pause-...) you could always limit it to one pause per life.

Secondly, the collision detection is a little off. I understand the impact zones are rectangular, but because the hill sides round off and the bullet pulls up when ascending, there were MANY times where I visually cleared an obstruction, but exploded anyway. That's the only time I ever got frustrated by this game. It led me to an idea of variable impact mechanics (which would detract from the purity of the game, but would be more forgiving on close calls). Perhaps hitting a brown trunk would lead to instant death, but you could have 3 'bumps' off the presumably softer green regions without exploding. I pretty much gave up on going after goombas because it was really hard to determine how close I could get without dying.

For everyone complaining that it's too fast... too bad. The challenge of this game is its speed. If it were to be slowed down to make it any easier, it would very quickly become TOO easy and be no fun at all. There have been many games throughout history that have relied on twitch gameplay and level memorization to make them engaging... and this is one more in a very distinguished line.

I applaud you for creating one of the few CHALLENGING games I've ever seen on Newgrounds... most are either tedious or rely on a difficulty curve that ramps up to impossible, never giving you the satisfaction of truely winning.

Your 8 levels, clean presentation, and quality gameplay kept me entertained for over an hour. And I must say, I have NEVER been so happy to see Mario die :)

Keep up the good work!

My eyes hurt

I was fine with the speed of the game itself, but when playing the speed makes my eyes painful!

SLOW DOWN!!!

its a fun game, but you need to really need to slow down the pace a lot or at least add a beginner mode

SO ANNOYING!!!!!

I made it to lvl 4. It took half an hour just to get there and i can't get through, at least not today. CAn't you put in a begininer mode?
