Nice sentiment, but...
The problem is that history has shown time and again that those who claim to rule us are never the solution to our problems; they're the cause. Any solutions we develop to our looming environmental disaster will come despite them and not because of them.
Politicians are loyal only to those who purchase them. They will only ever serve the interests of those with the most wealth and power. That means, in our culture, the corporations. Even if you manage to force a politician to sign something, pieces of paper are not worth the paper they're written on, as seen by the universal contempt for the Kyoto Accords.
Albert Einstein wrote, "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." The time has come when we must stand up for ourselves, take responsibility for our actions, and make changes to the way our world operates -- or perish utterly from the Earth. No gods, no masters.
I recommend raisethefist-dot-com, ainfos-dot-ca, and infoshop-dot-org as good places to start learning how we can bring about these changes ourselves.
