in my interpretation what this flash is saying is that happiness comes from the inside rather than from without. you can orient yourself to attain happiness from the outside (materialism) but that ultimately leaves you with nothing and kills you.

Kill the guy? It was turning out to be a really uplifting message until he died. then it became a very dark message. blotting out the previously good message.
