Good game
I really enjoyed playing this, the old-school graphics really take me back to when I was 2 years old playing things like Space Invaders and what not.. The BGM was neat too. Way to go!
Some items of interest
I like the idea that you can upgrade between levels, however I would add in multiple weapon types (ie Missles, Spread, etc.) to give it some depth. Also, the other thing I think it is missing is power-ups/bonuses throughout the game play (temporary special weapons, increased damage/shields, etc).
Other than that, it is a sweet game!!

Awesome game.
The graphics fit the game perfectly and the levels were really well designed. The explosion animations were excellent as was the soundtrack. All in all a great game and I hope you release the final version. The only fault I can find is that there is no sound for your own ship dying.
