Reviews for "Road to Serfdom"

It's only a slideshow, but the message is huge!

I think this is quite timely and I hope it opens a few eyes to the current Propaganda machines in today's America.
How many rights will we sacrifice for Homeland Security? When will it end?

Good

I'm leaving it at that.

Great piece, I just wish it came out before the

election and not after. I fear we are going to have an american road to serfdom now.

Anenome responds:

While the Republicans have their faults, at least they espouse the principles of, and give lip-service to the ideas of freedom, and are pressured by their constituency to follow through on it. They are forced to compromise into less-free ideas by the Democrats, the liberals who are the current proponents of central control. These mensheviks believe in Keynesian economics, which rationalizes the central control they advocate (though it has been discredited by stagflation). Just look at Kerry's own campaign slogans, seems like all I ever heard him say was, "I have a plan..." His plan means less freedom for you and me. He has consistently been against market solutions and for governments solutions. The difference is that the free market cannot force you and I to deal with them, the government can.
I call for a separation between government and economics.

I will suggest to you the libertarian economic ideas of Von Mises and Murray Rothbard for more information.

apt but slightly obsulete...

The pamphlet is from the late 50's as an anti-cumunist piece. Most dictatorships that arise these days are done so by maintaining a false climate of fear and using that as an excuse to opress the people.

Anenome responds:

Communism is just one flavor of those in love with central planning and its corresponding suppression of freedom. Dictators too seek and must have central control to remain dictators. The only alternative is the decentralized economic and control system of democratic capitalism, seeking decentralized power and decentralized economic control. Beware those who seek to centralize power, for by doing so they must at the same time remove those same powers from you.
