Intresting concept.
Before I get negative, I want to say 'don't let my crappy review stop you from improving.'
You need a preloader, more intuitive and intracate (SP?) plot, and a little graphic work. The choice of music was fine, a lot of people can dig the 8-bit soundtrack. (for example, check out www.highscore.tk) Keep on trying.
Not bad
Personally, I don't think this will, or should for that matter, make it in.
Artistically, the pluses are from the effort you spent on the trees, the various depth shadings, and the motion tweening of the layers.
On the con side, the main character had significantly less attention to its detail in stark contrast to to the trees; the story line was, at best, minimal; and your choice in bgm left a lot to be desired. Its tonality contained the mood you were trying to express, but was too obviously synthetic to CONVEY it.
You're definitely on the right track, so don't be discouraged if this doesn't make it, or at the score this receives if it does.

OK - Not a totally crap effort, for a first time animation to NG . . . but that MUSIC!!!!
