Reviews for "_-={Moonlit Cobble}=-_"

Another excellent SoS piece. In major.

Truly an excellent Ambionic piece, one of the best ive heard. I have barely any criticisms. And no constructive ones for you. So I shall spare you the destructive ones as well, and just write you a review.

Firstly, id like to confront a previous review, namely the in depth passage below by SolusLunes.

If that review was a joke, or had a reasonable degree of good will toward the author in it, then I appologise to both of you, dont bother reading on. However if it was an attack, as I first percieved, then do.

He claims that the piece is "perfect" for a cinematic work, but would fail in the grounds of a game.
The piece would do just fine in a game. A natural orientated game, or a slower Adventure or fantasy game would be lucky to come accross this.
And then theres the factor that yes, it is in fact a near perfect cinematic piece, why does it need to be anything else. Thats not a valid criticism.

He also claims that you, (Maestro Rage) are "too used" to epic composition.
Firstly, you cannot be "too" musical, in any direction, its all a matter of perception.
Secondly, he then goes on to say that the work is "too epic" and that he would never expect to find that in one of your songs. He wouldnt expect it to be "too epic" at any point, but you are in fact "too used to epic" yourself?
Again we hit a invalid criticism.

Lastly, id would like to be shown any piece on this audio portal which genuinely excells at two things, its hard enough finding a piece that excells at one.

As a piece in general, this excells.

The writing is excellent, one of the few things I would agree with from SolusLunes' review, is that occasionaly the instrumental choices could possibly be different for an improved effect. But this remains, an excellent piece.

If you are still reading, then you must be interested enough to read my last personal note on the piece.

From the very first second my mind was crying out for a mischeivous minor piece, I felt the major feel of the piece did it injustice. However, upon listening to the track over and over as I wrote this review, I have come to the conclusion that a minor piece would not have been better, just different.

I strongly suggest that you go on to create a more mischeivous piece in the style.

For this piece you have my highest distinction and salutations.
You have earned a spot on my favourates list. If there was a rating higher than 5R, you may well have got it. But theres not.
5R

MaestroRage: Thank you MostWantedVIP for your indepth review! Solus here likes to be honest, and I respect his opinion. He's a musician with a lot of potential.

Concerning your review.

You're right, a minor take on this song would be... interesting to say the least. I've always loved minor melodies, and pretty much every song i've done in the past has a minor key in it. Thankfully working with LadyArsenic (the lead composer for Nyran), i've been able to learn a lot of new and interesting things.

we warmly appreciate your support, thank you for that and the review, we are glad you enjoyed the song!

So,,,

I've come to two conclusions.

Firstly, I hate you.

Second, the Nyran-Online guys have got to be lucky to have you on the project- guarantee they won't have any music issues.

An awesome piece that is to be expected... however, what kind of scene was this written for? A cinematic? Then, perfect. If it's one of the themes of the game, like one of the ones that plays as you're playing the game in the middle of a town, it has a few minor problems.

Notably, the fact, that you're too used to "epic" composition, and that this song has a very nice, smooth flow. However. The low strings, for example, in a few places give this song a sound that one might not find exactly desirable for the placement- like I said, possibly "too epic." I never thought that I would find that to be a problem with any of your songs.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that this song sounds torn between two directions- epic music for movies, and a slow, calming town theme. It's good at both, however, excels at neither. You need a little bit of work on the non-epic pieces- from what I can tell by your history of works, your epic pieces are right on, the writing is impeccable. However. Your non-epic pieces suffer from slight instrumentation choice problems and a few small writing problems.

However, as always, one of your saving graces is the amazing sound quality your massive sample banks avail you to- but the writing needs just a wee bit of work.

I'm sure you'll manage to bring this style up to the level of awesomeness that I've come to expect from you.

MaestroRage responds:

MaestroRage: Why don't you ever call? :'(

Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you with the low strings. I quite liked them. They gave it a warm fuzzly feeling to me. But I guess that's all in a matter of another's opinion. Like they say, opinions are like butts: everyone has one, and they all stink.

Thank you very much for at least liking some parts though! =3 We appreciate your honesty and will work harder next time!
With love,
Lady Arsenic <3

MaestroRage: Gawd I hate you...

Nice (:

I've been playing fable recently and the fantasy rpg genre fits with this like a glove. There's a tiny bit of uneasiness added at the end... or it may just be my misinterpretation, but I like the piece for sure.

It's a little short, and the beginning of the composition is so much more complete, but I'm sure it will fulfill its purpose well.

MaestroRage responds:

%_% I've never played Fable, but I've heard some pretty good stuff about it. I'm glad you think so!
I guess there's a little bit of uneasiness in the dissonant parts at the end, but overall it's supposed to resolve itself into a nice easy position.
Yes it's short, but it's supposed to be for a game. You know how short those gamers' attention spans are. ^o^ Ohohohoho! Thank you for listening!
With love,
Lady Arsenic

Good idea, bad instrumentation.

Okay melody and structure.
However, the oboe, without any articulation, ruined what would otherwise have been a very upbeat, bouncy song.
