Reviews for "Arrogancy: Episode One"

"Arrogancy" isn't a word

Pretty art set to animation so slow and dull it looks like we're in slow motion, a horrribly executed intro - full of trite allegorical catch-lines - to what looks to be a boring, cliche plotline... the ultimate cliche Anime cartoon.

You get a 10 in humor for that "voice acting".

geez well..I don't know..

ok ok the graphics were great but dang man what did it all mean? I really think that the person talking sucked...and whateverz i give it a 4 it was good but not great.

One cliché after another...

First of all, I deducted three points from 'Graphics' because you tend to use the Japanese style of animation. Use your own.
Second, this is just terrible.
The story is leading toward a road congested with traffic. Everyone takes that route; that highway.

Action is needed, not just talk of it.
"I was trained in martial arts and weapons combat." So what? and for what?

The characters are just puppets used in a plot unsurrounded by a story. There is lack of almost everything essential to make this entertaining. The chacarters have not gone through "deep" tragedy for us to feel sorrow, and they are not doing much "good" to grasp our attention.

Concern yourself with the base of a story. Do not make this a long story told through magnificent anime-style art. Concern yourself with the needs and wants of the characters; let us feel and understand what THEY need. Currently, life is meaningless to them, but what made that? And why don't they make a difference?
Also, keep love aside; it's the downfall of every hero (and vilain). One woman is all that matters, and she is needed only at the end (if needed at all).

Last, do not give the characters super powers. Fireballs, gravity attacks, water elementals... Not needed. Just make them better human beings. As best as they can get without actually being human.
Keep all those points in mind and remember, a plot is useless without a story surrounding, and directing it.

arrogancy responds:

Haha. I love when people review just to make themselves sound knowledgable about a subject to others.

First of all, what is "the style of Japanese animation," given that there are a billion different animation styles found within? And "my own style?" I should recreate the way that animation is done, in a medium (Flash) in which shortcutting and dramatacism is ESSENTIAL? When I have a limited budget and time? Haha.

Secondly, I find it amazing that you know where a story that is contained in writing that would last 26 thirty minute episodes is going from a 4 minute compressed Flash episode. Must be psychic :) You remind me of people that saw the first EVA (an anime that I don't like) episode and said that it was a generic mech anime.

Don't think I'm picking on you (if I were, I could have ripped every statement apart, point by point) - I'm just happening to use your review to make a point. It's ludicrous to make judgements about an entire plot in seeing less than 1/10th of a story, and there are always people that can see through pretentiousness.

Could be better.

JPhoenix has a point.
Maybe if this came on CN I would watch it, but it has quite a few...shall we say cliched moments in it.
Some parts could better in graphics and plot, especially the part at the end. 'Who are you? Why am I telling you this?!' should've been left out in my oppinion. Kind of...spoiled my interest and made it fall about five points on my scale.
Perhaps it would've been better to simple say 'I'm.... and this is my story', but that too is overused and cliched.
The bird thing was overused as well, and the sword scene could've been much better.
The kiss scene looked...strange. It also could've been much better.
Maybe if a more...talented or expirienced person drew this, worked the graphics, maybe then I would be more interested in watching it.
The plot could use some revision, and the characters themselves look like they could use some work.

Narration stolen from the twilight zone

Nice graphics.... but that's about it, unfortunately. The pretence of an uber-soldier is as old as the hills, as is having the main character finding another like itself.

The narration is in a style that clones the twilight zone, which is just plain awful. While the music is good and the speech is of high quality, i keep waiting for the narrator to throw a twist at me...

The episode feels like a preview to an episode. Everything happens in the third person in past tense, as if it were leading to action but never arrives.

Pretty presentation, but it's a substance free zone.
