"Poignant and deliberately frustrating." - DauntlessStudio
GameDev Simulator: 2024 Edition is a game created by belzimbub and Olly Yuu for GMTK Game Jam 2024.
The theme "Scale" made me imagine gaming companies' revenue charts along with their numerous layoffs. I wanted to express my frustration through a short experience about what it's like to be a game developer in the modern industry — to show that there are people behind any graph.

Not much of a game to be honest, though, I suppose it's more to spread a message than provide entertainment.
As for the message itself-I don't see these layoffs as a big issue. Now granted I don't know too much about these specific layoffs, but layoffs in general tends to just happen sometimes. Massive layoffs don't just hit game developers and certainly are not anything new- It tends to hit every major corporation and industry at some point.
Eventually the laid off developers will either find new dev work, maybe form their own company, or move on to new avenues.
Granted, it sucks, and I feel bad for those laid off, but if I were to make a list of problems and issues and people that need support and help, this would be pretty low on that list.
Still, if you're passionate about it, good on you for trying to support them, and spread the message, it just isn't a priority for me. Though, again I'm not super informed on this exact scenario, and maybe it's a bigger problem than I think. But based on just what I see in this game alone, doesn't seem like it.
So real that it makes me sad.
