This is my game entry for Flash Forward Jam 2024.

A tribute to NES game "River City Ransom" & "Street Of Rage 2".


How to Play:

Press A, D to move. K to Jump and J to Attack and X quits to main menu.

Game Development Story:

Only got 4 days making this game from the time of the submission. So, Any feedback are more then welcome.


Tools Used:

  • grafx2 ( used for character sprites and menu design )
  • gimp ( used for color composition )
  • FlashDevelop/as3 project ( game editor for publishing & compiling )
  • neovim ( wrote everything here )
  • v0.7 uses openFL for further game optimization.


External Assets:

  • opengameart.org ( level background art & sounds )


Notice:

  • Bonus round is later added on v0.6. The original jam submitted version up-to v0.5 doesn't include the bonus round. It is added later just for fun.


Fix Update:

  • v0.1 - fixed black Visual artifact.
  • v0.2 - fixed vending machine collision checker & updated credits text.
  • v0.3 - fixed enemies healthbar overflowing visual issue & replaced key esc with 'x'.
  • v0.4 - A huge boost in the game performance. Now will run as butter smooth on any browser.
  • v0.5 - reduced the initial loading time by half.
  • v0.6 - added bonus round.
  • v0.7 - used openFL for further game optimization.
  • -- in-game loading time reduced from 26 sec to roughly 4 sec.
  • -- implemented smooth scene transition. Removed the black box view area.
  • -- assets optimization.

definetely needs some improvement but overall is a nice lil game :3
but you should also see some aspects in the gameplay, the graphics are really good (specially the backgrounds), but the gameplay can be a little annoying sometimes, like the you attack your character goes a little foward (this is really annoying >:C ) also add more variety, like new attacks, usables, attack while running, dat stuff
im open to see more projects from u ^_^

Shows some potential to be a nice beat-em-up, but at the moment it is very rough and needs a lot more work. Just doesn't feel that satisfying due to the dull, lifeless and disconnected feedback for hits, spongy brainless enemies that don't vary in any significant way to spice things up, a lackluster player moveset which devolves the gameplay into just spamming one button and never being sure what finisher you're going to get which makes it hard to plan, and questionable strategy as enemies keep hitting me despite me laying into them. There's also a lot of weird bugs, like how it shrouds a pit in darkness so you can't see it until its too late. Best of luck!

It needs more levels as someone else said. Overall a really good game!
