Awful grinding sound (hard to describe), and the Tardigrades (and amoebas) would freeze up or not respond at all.

Tardigrade Territory is a Tower Defense game based on the Microscopic Creature the Tardigrade, also nicknamed The Water Bear.
In this game you have to survive as many waves as possible from the Amoebas as Possible (a Amoebas is a common predator to Tardigrades).
Tardigrade Territory was made for the Hawkes Game Jam

Did the grinding sound only appear when 1 of your tardigrades is a wizard?
And what do you mean by freeze up, like wouldn't attack, stopped floating?
